The Florida Millionaire Raffle is back!
I have my doubts that 2 million tickets can be sold considering the time of year The Florida Lottery is running what they're calling 'a promotion'. The Pennsylvania Lottery's Millionaire Raffle ticket selling window is during the fourth quarter of the year. It gets a nice boost in sales during Christmas when people gift raffle tickets. The maximum number of tickets that can be sold is 500,000 and for many years The PA Lottery has had no problem selling all 500,000 tickets. The Florida Lotte

Probability of winning with multiple tickets
Tucker, thank you for the very concise explanation. I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately, the people that already did not believe what you wrote will probably not be convinced. They do not want to admit they were once mistaken. Improving the odds is exactly why I only buy tickets as a member of a pool. I never buy a ticket on my own. Yes, I could win a pick 3 game but winning $500 is not very exciting for me. Winning the Mega Millions or Powerball games is nearly impossible when buying y

$10M Mega Millions Win!
You cut the odds in half each time you double the number of unique combinations purchased. 1 ticket = 1 in 290 million, 2 tickets = 1 in 145 million, 4 tickets = 1 in 72.6 million, 8 tickets = 1 in 36.3 million, etc. It's a really simple formula: (number of tickets in your possession)/290472336. If you buy 290,472,336 unique combinations, you are GUARANTEED to win the jackpot. You'll also collect millions of dollars in lower prizes. Of course, at that point, you're no longer gambling, yo

The Science of Random Number Generators in Lotteries
Before all the technology started slapping us silly with RNGs slot machined had gears with 7 or 9 teeth usually per window. Sop if you ere playing a slot with three windows the odds of hittoing a payoff were 7x7x7. I was workiong in Vegas in the late 1970s and the casino put in a couple of old time nickel slot machines. Spome of he oldtimers workomg there went up tpo them and said , Well hello old friend . One of the who ssw this said, Why are you excitged asbout 5 cnet slot ma chines? The

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
I think what winoneday meant was that it was bad luck for the house. In the long run, the average jackpot won will equal the expected value. In a game like this, a drawing every few days with odds of 1 in 300 million, the long run could be many years. In a short period of time, the players can be lucky which means the house (MUSL) is unlucky. Unlike other games like pick 3 or any table game or slot machine in a casino, where more jackpots are good for business because the long run for th

Balancing Odds and Cost 😁
A lot of players talk about or are thinking about value when buying a lottery ticket. That's fine if that's important to a player. Given the odds of winning any jackpot, the value is always a negative. I respect the length people go to when calculating that value it would be interesting to see the same approach towards the purchase a pack of cigarettes or beer When I buy tickets all I'm thinking about is What could/would I do with it if I won a big pile of money? I am with you

Balancing Odds and Cost 😁
A lot of players talk about or are thinking about value when buying a lottery ticket. That's fine if that's important to a player. As for me personally, because of the ridiculous odds against players, I don't give value any thought at all. When I buy tickets all I'm thinking about is What could/would I do with it if I won a big pile of money? I know and accept the fact that I'll probably never actually have the pleasure of making that decision. My attitude is if I don't win, it's no bi
