$325 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot rolls again
The *game's* odds are based on the number of possible combinations, and the number of combinations on a single ticket. As RJ notes, some tickets give you two (or more) chances on a single ticket. The odds each player has are determined by the game odds and the number of tickets the player has for the drawing. If you have 1 ticket and I've got two, my odds are twice as good as yours (or yours are twice as bad as mine, depending on how you want to look at it), but it cost me twice as much to have

Odds Don't Change When Jackpot Goes UP
It surprises me that some people believe the odds of winning a lottery go up when the jackpot gets bigger. If you're smart (grin), you will realize the odds of winning any prize is the same whether the jackpot is $2 million or $35 Million. I was reading in a few articles that people feel that their chances of winning are much slimmer as the jackpot goes up as more people are buying tickets. The only thing that changes is the prize structure not the odds. More money is being divided amongst m

Pick 3 Paradox? Question of probability
The standard (mechanical) way that a Pick 3 digit is selected is to draw one ball from a machine that contains a pool of ten balls. This is done 3 separate times (there are 3 machines that each contain ten balls) to give us our winning Pick 3 combination. Since there are ten balls in each machine we can calculate the total possible combinations by multiplying each of the machines ten balls by the other machines ten balls and so on. When this is done we get 10x10x10, which equals 1000 possib

McDonalds Monopoly Game
The people that whine about MM's odd beter read that sheet if they want to understand truely poor odds. Of course if you hit MM you can skip the viper and get something fancier if you want (or bullet resistant if you're paranoid). Your odds are off on winning MM twice. Odds of winning PB and MM with just two tickets would be 1 in 23,375,000,000,000,000. Just a little worse than even McDonalds odds. Winning MM twice would be even less likely. I suppose if you bought 1000 tickets over time your od

Easy-Win Concepts
There are 75,287,520 possible combinations of 5/100. The 12 way match reduce your odds of matching 5 for the jackpot to 75287520/12 = 1:6,273,960 for a $2 ticket. The odds of matching 6 for the jackpot in Super Lotto was 1:13,983,816 for a $1 ticket. Had you bought two $1 tickets your odds of winning the jackpot would have been 1:6,991,908 for $2.The odds are a little better for winning $1M than they were for $4M, so what you really have in about the same odds or winning 25% of the old prize

Lottery odds are not as bad as you think
Any lottery has odds that are far worse than you think. Try playing roulette and see how often you win. Odds are only 1:37. Pick 3 is very difficult to win playing straight on one number. Odds 1:1000. It only gets worse from there. Odds are much better getting hit by lightning and at least if that was you goal you can just wave a large iron wire around on a golf course during a thunderstorm to increase your odds. Getting better odds from a lottery is just an excercise in futility.
