OHIO $27 million
The cash value is almost equal to the odds of winning the jackpot, so some of the more serious players will be putting a few extra bucks on the game, so there shouldn't be many more rollovers. It may lower the amout of money spent of MegaMillions this week.RJOh

MM Drawing for 7/15/03
To smd173,With 200,000 picks and overall odds of 1:43 of getting a ticket worth $2 or more, you could expect to have over 4500 tickets worth $2 or more, which means you would get $10,000 for sure, but you might still be in the hole even if you hitted 5/5+0 for $175,000.RJOh

Seeing patterns where none exist
I am treating the odd and even numbers as coin flips. 1st draw is even, 1/2 odds, 2nd draw even, 1/2x1/2 or 1/4,3rd draw even 1/8, 4th draw 1/32. Isn't this correct?

The gambler's fallacy is the mistaken notion that the odds for something with a fixed probability increase or decrease depending upon recent occurrences. In other words, tails can't be 3 times overdue. Type Gambler's Fallacy in google and you will see many examples of this.

'National' game?
I hope they do merge. I hope the odds are 200M to 1. Minimum should be set at $25M. And because the jackpot might reach over $500M with ease, they should only pay in ANNUITY. I say over 26 years.

'National' game?
I think they will definitely merge at some point. Keeping the Powerball brand name and slightly increasing the odds. Maybe around 150 Million to 1.

Seeing patterns where none exist
I have always understood the concept. Let's go over a few things. Past draws do not affect future draws. This is still true. What we ended up discussing was probability within sets of random numbers. The odds for each single drawing is still 1/1000. You keep saying that Probability is where math meets common sense(or something like that). It's the opposite. Probability has nothing to do with common sense.

'Hot Lotto'-revise it?
With ND agreeing to sell Hot Lotto, I'd like to see the top field go to 40 numbers (5/40 + 1/19), keeping the eight lower-tier prizes as is, and lengthening the annuity to 30 payments, so that 100k jackpot rolls are easier to achieve. (The overall odds of winning would be so SLIGHTLY longer, you'd need a microscope.)Now we have to get Maine (after they join MUSL), DC, Delaware, PA, and RI to sell it.Of course, Connecticut would be a big help, but their 6/44 IS a very good game. I'd support CT sw
