When is there a positive expectation for playing Mega Millions?
It looks like you're confusing pot odds with expected value and they are two very different things. For example, lets say if I bet $100 on a poker hand and I have a 55% chance of winning Without seeing anyone's hole cards, how do you know you have a 55% chance of winning? After the showdown, you had a 100% chance or zero chance. So right now, the MegaMillions is $151,000,000 and I would expect it to be negative EV as the odds of winning the grand prize, as well as any other prizes

I wouldn't buy a book of the new $5 ticket. The likely result is $105/$300. Personally, I'd recommend buying random $20 Gold Rush Doubler, or $20 Flamingo tickets. With the $20 Flamingo game, there's less than 400k tickets across the state, and still one $5M prize out there. Although you're likely to turn that $300 into $100-$150, your odds of hitting something truly life changing is greater on that game. @ Bke - Honestly, tough to say. The last $5M prize can appear almost anywhe

Yep, the map and color scheme seem to be the major differences. The nice thing is this helps people know which tickets to buy and which ones to avoid for the relevant last jackpot prizes. Sorry to hear you keep getting burned on the $20 Gold Rush. Even if the $2 Doublers have been rough, maybe just stick with that one. The $2 Money Bag Multiplier seems to be another one to play. 9 top prizes have already been hit, showing that it is staying true to the odds. The old $20 Gold Rush seems to be

What is the point of the powerplay?
Power play odds are posted- Looks like they use 43 balls. Below are the power play odds and the number of balls for each number 2 through 5 - and 10 when the jackpot is less than $150,000,000. This may explain why you see more 2's 3's X 2- 1:1.79 (24 Balls) X3= 1:3.31 (13 Balls) X4= 1:14.33 (3 Balls) X5= 1:21.50 (2 Balls) X10= 1:43 (1 Ball)

What is the point of the powerplay?
Like seriously. You throw in the extra dollar and hoping patiently you hit something or anything. Once in a while it does do a 5. It's been mostly 2x. Why not just bring back the old format which was better? It caught a lot of attention. There has never been a 10x has there. I am not mad or nothing but powerball odds being what they are it's rediculous. If they're adding a 10x add to all the drawings and let people win it that way too. The megamillions is way be

@ Numb3rs - Glad to hear you and your son had a really nice return. I like the Electric 8s ticket, although it sucks to scratch. @ Ronnie - You beat the odds of 1-in-25714.29. 1 in 25.7k tickets = 1 in 172 books basically. Congratz, that's an incredible win on a $2 ticket! @ Gators - Sorry to hear about $20 Flamingo sucking. It is very similar to SM in that the $245/$600 books are common. If you encountered 8 losers in a row, the middle or end of the book should pick up. Just curious

Do statistical trends exist?
Hey there, Teddi. In your previous post, I'm missing where you claimed one of the secondary prizes but, showed both interest and concern regarding the fact that (4) others (tickets) did: -That being said, 4 tickets from PR won the secondary prize last night. All with Powerplay. Odds are that it's one person, because the odds of that happening with 4 unrelated tickets in a such a small population are too high for me to calculate this early in the morning. So either something fishy is going on

US lottery operators worry as fewer millennials line up to play
Oh, IDK. Times are changing and eventually the people who live online will be the ones making the decisions. The lottery will keep seeing a decline in sales until eventually someone will present a cost benefit analysis and things will progress from there. The young adults of today are both heavily reliant on, and accepting of, online services and technological advances. Attracting their dollars will require changes in how lottery games can be played. Online sales is the next logical step if

KENO System in the works
Yes, Serge, they can be profitable without the zeros as they pay off less than table odds; so even if player win on number the casino wins by not paying off at true odds. In Vegas at Bob Stupack's Stratosphere Casino they had instituted a non zero wheel called 'Polish Roulette' which as wildly popular with local roulette aficionados. They haven't tried to charge me yet. The only time they were going to charge me is to provide a statewide inventory report of Super Millions (including book numbers within each retailer). They explained to me that getting the book numbers listed with the store locations would take several different staff members and alot of time, so that would be an understandable cost. I didn't go through with it, but I think it is worth the charge. Let's say they charge $20-$50 for such a report, that can save
