What kind of odds are you expecting for a game that pays at least $10 million? Since you have to play 3 sets of numbers for $5 , the odds are about 1 in 28.6 million. That's a bit better than Powerball and MegaMillions, where $5 would get you odds of 1 in 39 and 1 in 35 million, respectively. The biggest differences are having to play at least $5 instead of having the option of just playing for $1, and collecting (I think?) a tax-free cash prize. Compared to PB and MM, that gives you better odds

Did you win RJOH?
Playing for a $20M jackpot with odds of 1:41M rather than a $12M jackpot with odds of 1:175M is really a no brainier.

Time to post my PB logic:
You also need to keep in mind the Odds: hitting the jackpot is one in 195 MILLION. The odds of hitting 5x5 for $200,000 is one in 5.2 Million. Based on the numbers of winners of 5x5, it seems more like one in 25 million. Even if we cut those 5.2 odds by 80% we are looking at one in a million, so PLEASE REALIZE the odds are there for a reason, they ARE against you, don't spend more than you can afford to piss away, but this doesn't mean you can cut the odds even more and have fun t

$325 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot rolls again
Back in the days when many local lotteries sold two chances to win for a dollars, the odds of winning was based on the number of dollars you spent and was printed on the back of play slips that way. As ticket prices went up to a dollar plus per chance(or board) that way of figuring odds stopped but it's still true if you're figuring your odds of winning by the amount you pay for a ticket. Florida has a game where the price per board decides the size of the jackpot you're playing for.

$325 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot rolls again
RJOh, I am familiar with Hot Lotto. I just think that the PB group should not have raised the jp. odds YET again this past January. 5/55 + 1/42 (1 in 146 million) was discouraging enough. 1 in 195 million is just plain greedy, hoping that even higher odds will lead to $300 million jackpots more often. Players are NOT stupid; they know when they're being dealt an even worse deal. They didn't even alter the lower-tier prizes with the last matrix expansion. Matching 4/5 + the PB still pays out $10,

Best way to play the odds?
I'm wondering if it's better to place, for instance, 10 bets in one state or 1 bet in each of 10 states? Which method has better odds?

$325 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot rolls again
MM jackpot of $325 million? Nice for the MM group. The Powerball group must be jealous. For all their tinkering with their matrix to raise the jackpot odds last January to an even more impossible 1 in 195 milion (?!!), PB, with now 30 states, hasn't reached the $300 milion jackpot mark in years. Not even five years ago PB had jackpot odds of 1 in 120 millon. Wasn't that impossible enough?? Not that I think that the MM jackpot odds of 1 in 176 million is a walk in the park. But I like to see that

How do I compute the odds of winning a lottery twice?
Jackpot odds of 1 in 41,000,000 for one jackpot and odds of 1 in 14,000,000 for the other. Play both 5 times each drawing.
