What steps should one take before turning a winning ticket in?
If I were to win a large amount of money I think I would buy Treasury Bills for the bulk of my winnings. I'm not looking for ways to make more money but a safe place to keep it. I've been Googling around and found this info on Treasury Bills (T-Bills). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Treasury Bills (T-bills) are the most marketable money market security. Their popularity is mainly due to their simplicity. Essentially, T-bills are a way for the U.S. government to raise

Can't Feed the Pig when Uncle Sam & The Lottery Steals all the Food
Most people have forgotten that Congress stopped voting for pay raises years ago - the public complained. They passed a law that automatically raises their pay every year, minimum 10%. They have no problem spending money, it doesn't come from them - if it costs more, they raise their pay higher. Most laws exempt Congress from penalties, give theirselfs the best heatlth insurance policies on the planet, the best retirement investments on the planet, automatic pay raises, free parking at all Gover

Can't Feed the Pig when Uncle Sam & The Lottery Steals all the Food
First the issue of whether it is worth it to pay the lottery. I took a statistics class in college. My professor determined that mathematically it does not pay off in the long run to play the lottery. As for the tax issue, tax payers do get some return on their tax dollars. Either now (roads, defense, police, government agencies) or the future (social security). I do not know what the exact percentage is. The tax issue is not as bad as you present.

Question for You about Name Similarities ...
I recently thought about this.... What if someone with a common name (such as John Smith) formed a blind trust after winning a jackpot? Even though all the social security numbers of all U.S. Citizens are different, a bank or the government could make a mistake in calling the wrong person with the same first and last name on the phone. After all, bank and government officials are human, and humans can make mistakes. What are your thoughts?

I won the Little lotto
You should cash it yourself whether u owe child support or anything because if u have your grandparents or anyone else cash it, you can mess up their money. Social Security has limits of earned income and so does disability pay. If you aren't planning on taking care of whomever cashes your ticket in..then you need to do it yourself. Also, if they are on welfare, you can really mess them up. If you don't owe anything, the taxes are about (Federal-6,000 on 25,000). If your state has income tax, th

MAKE SURE IT'S A PERSON YOU TRUST, Ask a senior citizen maybe your grandparents or mother or father. Make sure you pay them for using their social security #. When they cash in the ticket go with them.

Firefox users: You can get EV support for secure pages
I just looked back and saw how few views there were for this topic. I guess the reason I'm surprised is that security topics tend to be so popular among LP members. EV support is great in order to help avoid phishing scams, among other things. I hope more people get a chance to see this.

Lottery Post now has Extended Validation certificate
Thank You Todd. As additional info, one can also view the certificate details by double clicking the little lock on the login screen in the bottom right, and the s in https also indicates a secure server site. This good for any site where security is expected as with CC purchases. Never can be too secure.
