3 hours of hell
Thats why you should do as Todd said, and have a quality Virus checker - with up-to-the-minute software. My Norton goes off and checks for update at 1:00 am every day. Downloads and installs. Norton Firewall has never failed. Microsoft Security has never failed - it has automatic download/install also. I never accept a cookie until I have been there a dozen times (LP has cookies like crazy!). Some times I just deny the cookie and don't go back. I never trust any source I didn't specifical

3 hours of hell
100% correct.I run stahdard Windows XP on all my PCs (except my Mac), with Norton Internet Security handling the firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware. I also run AdAware every two weeks or so, but it hasn't detected any real spyware on my PC for over six months now. Norton, combined with Microsoft Outlook, do an excellent job of filtering out everything bad from incoming e-mail, and I get literally thousands of e-mails every day. (In fact, I use Microsoft Outlook's built-in anti-spam filte

Remaining anonymous if you win jackpot?
I am confused. Who cares if they know who you are? If you won a few thousand, maybe it will make a difference, but I doubt it. You win the big bucks and it makes zero difference. Those who want to find you will find you. There will be a police reports of extra security, a document in the lottery building, or a simple thing found by a Freedom of Information search. Private Detectives make a living do those. Celebrity chasers make a living on this. Lawyers make a living doing this. Why worr

2 most recent Powerball winners
Oh I'm sure that it bummed out a whole group of people especially the old timers. When I heard about it I thought well what's the use in playing. Just because they got caught that time who knows how many times they actually got away with it.Hence after that happened the various lotteries implement different control measures to prevent it from happening again. Now the security measures are somewhat standardized. As for being ripped off.... the lottery is a money making machine that's why they have

Thieves uncover hole in Okla. lottery planning
Security is never worth the expense until you have been robbed. Quality is never worth the expense until tires start falling off the wheels. SATs were never worth it until students could not fill out an enterance exam. Carrying a cell phone is never worth the expense until the car breaks down on a dark road in a high crime area. Stocking canned food and bottled water is never worth it, until there is none available - like after a hurricane; or a terrorist attack. Any excuse is a good excuse. Th

Powerball lottery fever hits the USA
Chewie, I also intend to travel but after awhile I tend to get home sick. I don't want a home that is so big I rattle around in it seeing as how it is just me and my cat's. However I do want a place that is high security. I don't need those gold diggers around. I just went and bought my tickets for PB happy to report no lines however ther was a guy in there buying $500.00 worth I told him that his money would come in handy for me to buy a new computer, and food for my cats (they love t-bone)! go

would you take cash or payments on the PB
If I chose annuity, I would be saying I trusted the Government to manage my money for the next 30 years. Name one financial effort the Government has ever managed successfully. Think Boston Tunnel Project. They have been managing my Social Security Account since 1954. Any one want to brag on that fisaco? The State of LA and the New Orleans City Government has been managing New Orleans for 100 years. Enough said. Choose cash!!!!

Fear of Winning
jt1217 said I guess in most respects I do not want to live in fear that because I have an absurd amount of money that maybe my children would be threatend and that I could not live in peace each day. Now this part, I understand and in full agreement. What any parent would want to pick up the phone one day and hear, We have your child, if you ever want to see him/her alive again ... I shutter to even think about it. I hope and pray for anyone who wins will never experience anything like tha

Sign the petition - eliminate computerized drawings!
I find it interesting if a state is willing to go to computerized multi state lotteries and feel they are safe , how do these same states justify not being able to buy tickets online within your OWN state because of all the fraud potential. (if you write your state lottery that doesn't sell tickets online and ask them why you can't buy a subscription online from them, listen to what they tell you)---it sounds like a contradiction to the security of computerized drawings. Maybe this point can

Winner's son flees amid kidnap reports
D-I-T-T-OOr atleast have the intelligence to go some where you can be difficult to access. I made the same point about the NJ winners. Staying in the same crowded neighborhood, with inadequate security is inviting some one to rip you off. A huge lottery win changes ALL of your life, not just your income. Jack Whitiker was the poster child. It is like a large neon signing saying Free money here. Buy them books, and buy them books, and they chew on the covers.
