Iowa court reverses part of Tipton's lottery fraud conviction
An Iowa appeals court on Wednesday upheld a former lottery employee's conviction for rigging the computer system to generate the winning ticket in a $16 million jackpot, but reversed a conviction for attempting to cash in on the ticket.
The conviction stems from Eddie Tipton's work for the Iowa-based Multi-State Lottery Association, or MSLA, which produces computers that generate random numbers for lotteries in multiple states. As an employee of the association, Tipton was barred from playing

you win the jackpot. how far away are you moving?
Very true indeed. Gates provide a false sense of security. I live in a gated community and all those gates do is keep out people that mean no harm and solicitors. The bad guys cant be stopped getting in the community even with the gates closed. There is no security guard in the guard house at the gates either. The HOA says it's too expensive to hire security guards and won't pay for them.
The worst felony gates help to reduce is burglary. National studies of gated community's show gates red

Money and the Crime of Kidnaping
Here are a few points that connect my impressions to the latest facts:
The Ring/Nest Video : The footage you mentioned has become a cornerstone of the investigation. Images show an armed, masked individual wearing gloves and attempting to cover the camera lens with foliage before disconnecting it. Experts noted the suspect seemed to know the exact location of the cameras, suggesting a highly pre-planned crime. The Kidnapper's Intelligence : As the detective you heard mentioned, there are sig

Data breach at lottery tech vendor Brightstar exposes personal info of over 100,000 individuals
Another example of the identity verification process being hacked, just like the Tea app that was recently hacked, and many others.
In my opinion it's because securing uploads like identity photos can be a challenge, and these companies don't put in the effort or cost required to do it. It is enticingly simple to setup a simple cloud service and do security by obscurity meaning the files are not actually secured (locked down), but instead they rely upon people not finding them because you'd

S.C. man loses more than $140K to 'you've won the lottery' scam
That is the one scam phone call been waiting for and they never come. One with the fake IRS I told the guy I'll meet you on the second floor gift store in the airport, Louisville KY to pay the money I 'owe'.
Just last week a smart lady (I thought) was on CBS Evening news. She was told to send $140K for the social security scam and SHE DID.
My latest thing when I do infrequently answer the ones that get around the blockers is to ask them for the password. They ask and I say I need the passw

LP Chat Transcripts Saved Here
Oops, forgot to address this on the forums (the lack of chat last Sunday).
It was not the Superbowl, it was actually an issue with Lottery Post. There have been a number of substantial upgrades that have been happening to Lottery Post behind the scenes, including huge performance improvements and increased security. Unfortunately because the chat program is so old, the new security system has prevented it from working.
I'm going to try and get the chat fixed ASAP, but still working out how

Bandits take off with money, chips from Vegas casinos
Above the New York New York hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Bandits have gotten away with cash and chips from four casino-hotels in Las Vegas since last week, leaving police on the hunt for multiple suspects. It's unusual, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt Michael Mauntel said of the frequency of the robberies since Nov. 2017. (AP)
