Reduce the Pick 3 Odds To 3.5:1
Can you win the Pick 3 with reduced odds? Well, here's one way to do it. Take the last pick and divide it into 3 pairs. 123 becomes 12,23,13 etc. You play those 3 picks for the next two consecutive games. You just need to pick the third number correctly. The pairs will be correct about 20% of the time in CA (check your state). Pick 3 box in CA pays $80, so your winning Expected Value is $16. Your cost per box play is 2 games x 3 picks or $6. Win $10 per game with 1:

Can math and logic improve chances of winning a jackpot?
Naw, It takes quite a bit for me to be impressed. That was actually a very happy that he, (and everyone else that wins) won. I know what the human brain is capable of, so it's got nothing to do with impressed. I'm just actually happy for him that he got another win. The statistics are a little different than the odds are. They are marked as to what the Lotteries say they are, and that was what I was talking about. According to their odds, he did better than they say they are. Their odds ar

Do some number combinations have better odds?
You would understand WHY gambling is all about the odds, or the edge, if you were beating a game. I suppose every casino gets their share of fanatics they end up escorting out the door because they were outraged when they didn't beat the game. I, like the majority of gamblers don't gamble to beat the game, I gamble to win money. If you believe gambling is all about gaining an edge and looking for an odds advantage in your favor, the odds of that happening are about the same as a $1 QP winni

Buying More Tickets Does Not Increase Your Odds.
Stack47, Nope but if placed the same bet on another number with the same odds (like 2 ) the odds are 34 to 2 or 17 to 1 by reducing them to the lowest common denominator (exactly the same way the 5 and 9 odds are reduced to 3 to 2). The payoff would be reduced to 15 to one too; I'm pretty sure betting $2 to win $30 is 15 to one odds. If you're having a problem with the way odds are expressed, put them into a percentages. Odds of 17 to one only have 5.88% chance of winning still over twice as

Weak Powerball Sales?
How many times are you going to pat yourself on the back for getting lucky on a QP and matching 5+0 five years ago? With all your incredible knowledge, experience and passion for the lottery structure, why is it you haven't won at least one second tier prize? You didn't even know until a couple of days ago that Power Play guaranteed $1 million for matching 5 numbers for the last three years, but you just can't say you're wrong. The odds of matching 5+0 were not the same in 2007 so the ol

Georgia Lottery News - Top prize sales - Are the odds changing?
It looks like we have had a few more top prize winners, but some games never seem to change. It appears that the game Big Win has had 2 $50,000 top prize winners turned in in the last three weeks. There was also 2 $35,000 top prize winners of Cashword 3. PIECES OF 8 sold the last 2 of the top $8,800 prizes, so that game should end soon, as all of the top prizes have been claimed. QUICK $100 has a top prize of $100, and has 38229 of 41043 top prizes claimed. 539 were claimed in this time period.

A few quick questions from someone new
I prefer to budget my $$.....so I think about it over several rounds of playing, not just that one time. I combine the odds with the number of unclaimed prizes. So, without knowing the actual number of unclaimed prizes above, I can't give you an answer. But, in theory, I like to play more and take the winnings to move up to the NEXT ticket price and play the ones with the best odds. So, with a budget of $10, I would start at the $1.00 or $2.00 games, pick the game at that price point wi

Close Calls
It doesn't seem to work like you keep on getting closer closer closer. It just pops up out of nowhere. I hope that none of this sounds like bragging because it's ALL luck. 3 close calls on Wis badger 5 this year. 3 4 out of 5's (1:167,000 odds for winner) Biggest one I missed $150K and got $50... What was unusual that it is the easiest game to win on, with the best odds, and it was just about the only game that I didn't get 1 short until this year. I got 1 short on PB, at that time i

Quick decision: New Ark. Lottery chief recommends Powerball
I don't think they will change the matrix because of Arkansas joining. It would take a state of higher population levels than that -- such as when Florida joined (the impetus of the last matrix change). What will be interesting to watch is if MUSL allows Mega Millions states to join the game. What will they do then? Let's say New York joins Powerball, as their legislature wants to do (if it ever gets back into session). With one of the largest state populations in the nation, it could increas

Odds/Number Of Tickets
Whether its spiced up to sound good or left alone for what it is, the spiel about probability is the truth. Yes, there will only be one winning combination for every game and yes, the more tickets one plays the more losers he's guaranteed to have. But, the absolute best way to increase ones chance of winning is to buy multiple combinations and there really is no way around that. This doesn't mean I would ever recommend that someone spend more than what they can really afford to lose. No
