$228.9M Powerball lottery ticket sold in Minnesota
It looks like the winners (a couple) have come forward to claim the jackpot. They are an elderly couple (of course) who had just met with their financial advisor on Monday and they actually said, Looks like the only way we are going to be able to retire is if we hit the lottery. It looks like the lottery is now the new safety net. Forget social security. Well congrats. We now know their names, but since I am overseas right now, I don't know if they have made a public appearance. I did see the ne

Lucky lottery lady outed as Stanford University statistics PhD
Edit: When I say it's been done before I don't mean this whole scenario but only someone tipping off someone else about where the winning ticket(s) are. That whole scenario happened a few years ago in Indiana. A security person while verifying a winning ticket just happened to see a secured list for a new game that identified the roll that had a million dollar prize and the store it was delivered to and sent a couple of his buddies to buy the whole roll and cash in the ticket. It would have w

Why do large lottery winners
What do famous people do about mail? Surely they have hoards of unwanted mail all the time. Does Harrison Ford have a mailing address? I can see how you can hide the physical location of your home by ownership in trust or FLP, but what about personal records like drivers license, jury duty (as someone brought up), or IRS coorespondence. I can see tax stuff going to your CPA, but don't you have to have your physical address on your drivers license? Meaning PO boxes are not accepted. Plus the b

Scratch ticket dust
I do already have regular spring hay fever pollen allergies, so I figure this stuff is just another irritant. I just need to be more careful. But I wonder if years later down the line they'll find out this stuff is carcinogenic like asbestos. This scratch coating was created by some chemical company for security and obfuscation of the scratch card results, so I woudn't be surprised if human health was not their top design priority. Oh well, I ain't gonna stop playing scratchers or eating b

Should I report this error or not?
A bearer instrument is presumed to be owned by the person in possession, but that's not the same as actually being owned by the person in possession. In RJ's scenario the clerk would know where and when the ticket was bought, and any other transactions that happened at the same time. The clerk might have a photo of several tickets that the lottery could link together, and might have a credit card transaction at the same time and location. That would all add up to very credible evidence that the

rdgrnr, Since this IS a thread created for the discussion of security issues related to embedded links in posts, when you replied to my post above with, See if you can find a link for paranoia, Nancy. And then mash down on it, I must logically conclude that you completely understand my question, and know the answer. I'm sure there are many reading this who are not as well versed as you in HTML, so could you please explain? --Jimmy4164

Lottery winner faces murder trial in Detroit landlord's death
When a tenant cannot pay rent, it is correct procedure for them to ready all their possessions and depart speedily, not to steal via remaining for weeks to months thereafter (it is possible that the landlord needed that money in order to pay off the agreed upon mortgage on the apartment building) ... even if they were informed that their pre-paid security deposit couldn't be used as payment nor refunded upon departure for whatever the myriad of possible reasons! When the daughter told her fa
