$100 on $5,000 for life ticket in Illinois (Its a $10 ticket) on Christmas Eve has been my biggest Only started playing scratch offs in September. Not going crazy with it as I usually spend $2-20 a week. Although if I win or break even I usually play a 2nd time in week. I have moved more to the $5-10 tickets and away from $1 and $2 tickets in last 2 months I know odds are remote but currently spending that $$$ isn't killing me and for year of 2015 I am about even or slightly ahead th

Mega Millions is currently at 117 130 million, only $1 to play and slightly better odds. Illinois lotto is also a buck, 18+ million right now. I don't think they are going to come close to a sell-out which means better odds for us. I bought two tickets today. One at 8am in the 509,000 range and one at 7pm in the 521,000 range. That means only 12K to 15K tickets will be sold today. They need to sell 110,000 on 12/29 and on 12/30 for a sell-out. Not likely to happen. Given the drop in sales, I bet it finishes in the low 600,000s. I think the $300M powerball jackpot are cannibalizing sales for the raffle.

I'll renew my subscription to NY's Lotto in April. Lotto's a very tough game to win a JP, not a lot of players in NY play it. The main reason I subscribe to it is for a second place prize. You need five of the 6 numbers drawn, and the bonus ball to win it. Odds are about 7 million to 1. The nice feature about the second place prize is that if it isn't won, then prize money rolls over to the next drawing. I've seen it grow to more than a half million dollars. G5

my #1 hobby How do you manage to not know so much about your #1 hobby? Do you have any idea at all about the odds? How many tickets would have to be sold to produce 20 winners, let alone 2000? Do you think that a ticket bought by somebody who's not from the US has a better chance of winning than one bought by somebody who is from the US?
