This time around it wasn't until the 16th drawing that MM made it past $200 million. The last 2 times that PB made it past $200 million it took 10 and 9 drawings. That the more recent PB run took a bit longer may indicate a general jackpot fatigue, so perhaps it will take 11 or 12 drawings for PB to reach $200 million again. I do not know many avid scratch off players out there, but when they play, it is usually the $1 or $2 ones and they lose when the odds of winning are worse than the $5 or $10 price points. They are left with an even worse impression. I try convincing to buy at least $5 scratcher, but to many it is very high stakes. I personally only play the $5 and $10 since there are decent low tier payouts. I tried the $1, $2, $3, and $20 ones, without much success.

Won $5 last night across two tickets, $1 on a regular pick and $4 on a quick pick with the Megaplier. :) Barring Powerball doesn't go nuts over the next couple of months, we could be looking at another one of these monster Mega Millions jackpots come early March, just intime for my birthday. Yeah, when the lottery tells you what you coverage of combinations is, that is the chance of a JP winner. You can always estimate/calculate the coverage of combos from sales or projected sales, which always some lesser percentage, but that is just a theoretical estimate. Only the lottery knows exactly what numbers have been played and what the actual coverage of combinations is. If sales for today's draw are over $400M, way above the 259M odds, that would give almost an 80% chance of a win

That's what I was thinking. With a bigger jackpot, people will spend more heavily and more people will get in on the action. And being constantly on the news now... Most people that will be buying tickets this week wouldn't recognize a T-bone about MM's odds, the MM rules or even know that the MM rules have been changed. The 18 sets (combos) are one-off numbers. There are only three base combos. Each of those three base combos produce 6 combos. 6 combos X 3 base=18 18 is too much for me, so my next project is too reduce the odds without risking the possibility of excluding the winning combo in the process.
