Pulling it together in Ohio
Lkydeb*594, could you please specify what your hot pairs represent, front, back or split Otherwise , they are only reliable just as scooping a wheel combination of all numbers 0123456789 It would make more sense if the odds of winning were at least specified by defining them as front pair, split or back other than being abstract. onr has got to play your pairs at least 120 combinations of your pairs thats worth investing $120to win....

$550 MILLION: Mega Millions holiday bonanza!
258 - 18 = 240, no? 258 18 = 14.333. The difference of 240 is meaningless. Probability is about ratios, not addition and subtraction. Since the distribution of the combinations sold isn't uniform we shouldn't expect that the 9 5+0 winners used 9 different mega balls, but it definitely tells us that 9 people had a 1 in 15 chance of matching 5+1. That means each of those people had a 6.666% chance of choosing the winning mega ball and a 93.333% chance of not picking the right mega ball. Th

$550 MILLION: Mega Millions holiday bonanza!
In general this is faulty. The number of second place winners was consistent with the odds and sales. Nothing extraordinary. You could have more than 15 second place winners and still no jackpot winner. Luck has nothing to do with it....probability does. There was about a 48% chance of a jackpot winner based on sales. That which is most probable usually reigns king. In this case there was a 52% chance of no winner. There are occasions when conscious selection bias does affect the outcome,

$550 MILLION: Mega Millions holiday bonanza!
The whole point of Mega Millions and Powerball is to create big jackpots. If you want to play for smaller jackpots, nearly every state has other in-state games offering smaller jackpots. If I win an $800 million jackpot, I think I'll somehow manage it. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it. BTW, it was lucky that nobody won the jackpot Friday, because with nine 5+0 winners, the odds were better that someone would hit.

Just bought MM quickpick, not knowing odds got even more absurd
You're not the only one that did'nt know it, I was watching the news out of Philly and the 11.00 am anchor said the odds of winning were 1 in 175 MILS. I guess he doesn't play or doesn't care.

I have the best chance of winning the Mega
Your chances are slightly better than my $5 dollars that i purchased yesterday in tix. Only because you will definitely hit the mega ball probably a few times. Otherwise everyone else on Lottery Post is just as much in the running. It would be wise to pool your money with someone else willing to contribute a decent amount. You want to improve your odds. Yeah and when you get the winning ticket tonight please post it on the forum labelled show your winning tix here!

Backward engineering a winning pick.
Every combination will eventually be drawn, but because the jackpot games have a large amount of combos, the odds are we won't see it in our life times. Getting 5 out of 13 to 18 on a 5/39 game is doable, but the cost of guaranteeing matching all 5 is pretty high. If anything, I'd try to reverse engineer a winning circumstance like RJ's 5 out of 6. I matched 5 out of 6 several years ago in a 6/44 game by drawing all 44 numbers from a hat and putting them into combinations of 6. Probably just

I have the best chance of winning the Mega
Well this 1200 ticket exercise should provide a real good example for all those who believe in 'cutting the odds in half' with each additional dollar. Let's see, 258,000,000 / 2 twelve hundred times, should be a lock, right? It would be a real riot if there is a winner and it's someon who never played before and has to ask how much it cost to play.
