Does Mathematical Innumeracy foster superstitions and support the belief in them?
jimmy: One would think that those who believe systems can be designed to beat the lottery odds would welcome a systematic way to test their efficacy
We never saw a test of an actual lottery system. However you did show how 50,000 random pick-3 QP players would do if they all bet $1 in 20,000 drawings. Don't now why you believes 54 years is a valid test or how that even applies to realistic pick-3 play when almost all of the systems in the Systems Forum are for the next drawing, the next week

What is a lottery system? What distinguishes a lottery system from guesses, dreams and quick picks?
...a Pick 3 game can be effectively reduced to a Pick 3 of 30 game.
This statement I agree with completely. I've even suggested in the past that Lotto System players should apply their methods to the [000-999] games by imagining all 30 balls in one machine. It doesn't give the Digit people much to work with though, does it?
As for the balls being blown around in such a way as to make their emergence from the machine predictable, we part company there. On that point, I don't think you'll

What Does It Take To Win (Mathematically Speaking?)
The only value in back testing a jackpot winning system would be to Pumpi who talks about hitting multiple jackpots and winning billions. Since we already know the system was successful once, there is no value in finding the system might have created other jackpot winners from back testing when we can't go back in time and use it.
For lotto and pick-5 games I have a program that shows how many 2, 3, 4, and/or 5 number hits any group of any 16 numbers had over whatever number of past drawings

What Does It Take To Win (Mathematically Speaking?)
Yawn!
Your response is not surprising. I've had a few students like you, usually in the back of the classroom. When they were clueless, they would yawn and/or fall asleep. Perhaps a shorter, simpler, question requiring a less precise answer is something you can deal with.
In a Pick3 game paying $500 for a straight hit on a $1 bet, how many tickets would you buy without a hit before throwing in the towel and trying a different system?
Given the countless times you've told me that you

STRAIGHT System for Pick 3
The Reference Box is a tool you can use to get STRAIGHT hits in Pick 3.
It also works quite well with Pick 4.
The Reference Box is made up of the digits that are hitting the most in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions.
Here is a recent example of a Reference Box (RB) for New York done on February 14:
4
1
2
2
4
1
0
3
9
3
5
4
This means that the hottest digits in the 1st position are 4, 2, 0, and 3.
The hottes

Pick 4 Probability Question
In aggregate, there are 338 possible combinations. So: 10,000/338 = 29.59. In other words, using straight probability calculation, one of these combinations should be drawn about once out of every 30 drawings.
Looking at it another way, there are 30 groups each with 338 straight combinations. With groups that large I doubt you'll see each group averaging one hit every 30 drawings even after 20,000 drawings. Some groups might go months without a hit. If you place all the drawn numbers into t

Statistics around the balance of even/odd and small/big numbers
Jimmy
Your observation of the difference in the frequency of sets with more or less odd or even numbers is analogous to observing that the sum of the 5 numbers in a majority of sets falls into a minority of the total range of possible sums. The same is true for observing the number of unique digits in a set, or the average spread between the numbers. None of these patterns have anything to do with the probability of any particular set emerging.
They just ARE!
No problems here, ex

Numbers due in your State??
well u got me a little confusse rainemd, if you would like to choose qp and play pick 4 that wud be a good idea. because they hit the pick 4 often!! now if i am understanding you correctly, your method sounds pretty good. often the quicks hit pick 3 as well as 4. I suggest maybe you use your system for a day or two and watch the pairs, or bet min. wagers. pick 4 i wud eitehr mirror a digit , go up one, down one or double it for pick 4 . sounds like a good option with pick 3 too, or mirror the di
