Powerball multi-state lottery to raise prices, jackpots
Coin Toss, you're going to be embarrassed by this one.
The odds are 1 in 56 of hitting just the Powerball, because you need to factor in the odds of getting better than just the Powerball. If the odds of winning just the Powerball were 1 in 35, that would mean that you will never win any other prize.
Right now the odds of winning just the Powerball are 1 in 61.74.

New Powerball 2012 - 40 Mil Minimum Jackpot
I don't play any game other than the Pick-3 or Pick-4 unless both of the following conditions are met: 1) there is a recordbreaking or near-recordbreaking jackpot and 2) the drawing takes place on New Year's Day, my birthday (Jan. 4), Leap Year Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve.
I don't play any game other than the Pick-3 or Pick-4 because the smaller prize payouts are, in my opinion, unacceptably low. I will not accept $150 for matching 4 white

Mathematics and the Lottery
In 6/49 and other jackpot type games, players are looking for their first and maybe the only jackpot win in their life time. Until that happens they can only judge how well they are doing by the number of smaller prizes they are winning. If their rates of winning smaller prizes are no better than the odds posted on the lottery websites then their odds of winning a jackpot aren't any better either and they are depending on luck same as a quick pick player.
A player may be able to use data from

New Jersey: 8/1 - 8/31/2011
Considering that the only numbers not in there are 4-6-7, the odds of at least one showing are pretty high.
IDK I've been looking at these really statistically these days. Even my 3 and 6 pair workouts are pretty likely to show, because the odds of any single pair showing are 54/1000 or about 1 in 18.5, although there is crossover between my pairs, so the odds would be a little lower.
I'll still post occasionally, because it's fun to see if you can beat those odds, but I can't se

Post your scratch ticket results
wow, im impressed. ive never heard of anyone laying action on vollyball, darts, or handball. i assume these bets are made in the UK? i know vegas doesnt put out odds for vollyball or handball, but i think they lay odds for darts when its the world championship. betting on tennis scares me a ton because of all the scandels that happened a few years ago with a couple of russian pros. they were taking huge payments to throw their match. also, betting on individual sports is so risky. the only indiv

Now that PB and MM jackpots are at $20.0M and $15.0M
I still maintain long odds themselves are deceiving.
Whether it be one in 200 million, one in 20 million, one in 20,000, one in 200, and even one in 20, the odds are if I had you pick one number one time, the odds are you won't hit it. I know the odds are obviously BETTER with one in 20, but it is still unlikely you will hit it.
I still get a good laugh about the people that only play when it is over 100 million dollars, like they can't live on 20 million (~10 mill after taxes)???

Texas Lottery Ball Games need better Odds
I just need to vent about this. The two big Texas Lottery ball games, Lotto Texas and the Texas Two Step suck. These games have higher odds than other states with similar games. For example, Lotto Texas is a 6/54 game while Ohio's Classic Lotto is a 6/49. So to win the big one in Texas it is 1 in 25.8 MIL and in Ohio it's 13.9 MIL. And the Texas Two Step is garbage too, it is a 4/35 plus a 1/35 Bonus Ball while Ohio's Rolling Cash 5 is a 5/39 game. So to hit the big one the Texas 2 Step is 1 in

State vs Powerball vs Mega
RJ-Thanks for the odds info WRT Ohio Classic Lotto--with the JP as high as it is and more advantageous odds, I'll have to give it a more serious look.
I would have thought with a smaller number field, Mega would have slightly better odds than PB, but the odds for both are astronomical--just that the payout for the same size JP are better for MM than PB--i.e. PB 100M winner gets about 33M lump sum payout in OH after taxes, whereas MM 100M winner gets about 43M lump sum payout in OH after taxe

Heads or Tails
Personally I don't see that as valid at all, but this is how system sellers operate.
I agree. And this guy couldn't even get his odds right while making his pitch!
Everyone knows that the odds of a coin flip are 50/50. But few people know that the odds of one side showing up 3 times in a row go from 50% to 25%, and for 5 times in a row the odds crash to less than 10%.

Three state lotteries set to begin new multi-state game
Decades of Dollars to replace Win For Life game
By Todd Northrop
UPDATED: Since the original news story was written, it has come to our attention that Arkansas will not be participating in the new lottery game, due to legislative hurdles, and the Win For Life game will continue to be played in Virginia. The title of the story has been changed to reflect three state lotteries, rather than the four state lotteries originally referenced, and the body of the article has been updated with the a
