$6.9M lottery winner steps forward
They told me once in an e-mail that the validation process takes time and it could be up to 8 weeks until you actually have prize money... what they SHOULD do, if the absolutely must release the name,is wait until they have the money and give them a few weeks to ensure their safety (move, plan security, arm themselves, whatever) You are plastered on the front page well before you get a dime...

Vermont man finds lottery winner in wallet
Most petty criminals aren't too bright, which is why so many of them get caught. However, in this case it's possible that the thief realized that the lottery checks ID and asks specific questions, besides taking your social security number for tax reporting, and since the man was out of town when he lost his wallet, the thief would have no idea where the tickets were purchased. When I was robbed years ago, I was told that the reason my credit cards weren't taken is that someone who steals

Lottery dream shattered for N.C. couple
The article doesn't say anything about looking at the ticket with a microsope, though that would be a pretty obvious, and perhas the first, forensic technique in the event that there is any question about the authenticity of the ticket. My guess would be that when the guy said there was a microscopic piece he simply meant it was a very small piece. As far as the statement about not relying on eyesight, the validation process is to make sure that what looks like a winning ticket really is a win

Gambling Ring Bust...Arizona
I'm gonna bet that they took a huge risk, especially knowing the odds of a successful venture ahead of time. They knew the stakes were high. However, the house they were living in had the advantage because of the tight security. They finally gave up without a contest. At the end though, they had no choice but to ante up all the money they made. The cops busted them based on a hunch, and it rewarded them with a huge payoff. If they had only played their cards right, they probably would h

Does money buy you happiness?
I don't see what you are disgreeing with, Guesser. I never said that you can't be happy with the cheapest car, computer, TV. But you still need money to insure that car and, even if you are a mechanic, you need money for parts and tires, oil, gasoline. I know a lot of people who don't even own a computer and they don't have cable TV and they don't even drive a car. So what? You don't think they'd want to win the lottery? One of my neighbors doesn't get enough social security so she works

NJ lottery winner has 2 weeks to claim $19M jackpot
I had only a few seconds to look at it but the bonus ball was 19. I played 2 today with BB 19 on both. God works in not-so-mysterious ways sometimes. I kid you not, I won today: back pair on midday, 3 of 6 on Pick 6 and box on the evening 4. That's 3 wins in one day! I didn't pay for the dropped ticket. If it were to win big, had I kept it, whoever dropped it would be dragging me off to Court. They'd have a security tape of me picking it up and the player dropping it. Even if that's not th

A Model for What to do with the Jackpot You just Won
This article has been discussed before on LP. Here is one link if you want to read several additional posts. https://www.lotterypost.com/thread/151919.htm?q=brad+duke rp=search get=785637 I agree with other posters here that everyone has a different plan. I've taken big risks and I've made tons of money and I've lost tons of money. There is a percentage you invest when you're young in each risk category (high, medium, low) but security becomes more important as you get older. If I

Conspiracy Theory ??
I think all lotteries have pre draws. Security purposes so you saw an equipment failure and think because of it it's rigged. Have you ever owned a car that when you turned off the key your engine kept running. Guess they rigged your car. equipment failures happen all the time and this was one of those times it happened at the wrong time. I'm sure after they drawing the fixed whatever caused it.

If Your State Pre-Test's its Draws List it here
I got this off the Missouri lottery site. In addition to the daily random-number pre-tests conducted by the draw manager and independent auditor, the Lottery s security division also conducts monthly checks on the system to ensure randomness Man, no wonder it's so hard to get anything in MO. They pretest every day and have monthly checks. I wonder how many numbers we lose to these pretest? Plus they use three different computers.

Would you go For Humans to draw the Balls?
Pre and post testing is done as an additional assurance that no one has tampered with ballsets inserting/exchanging one or more outside allowed tolerances to achieve their intended results. Konane, I had actually completed my post before I saw yours and Emily's comments. I then edited mine to add that remark about you being saner (or maybe it's me being more neurotic! lol) But I really agree that, on the one hand, pre-tests provide much needed security. On the other, I don't like t
