"Taping" in advance & Conspiracy Theories
I agree completely. If they want to make it even harder to win powerball all they need to do is add a couple of extra balls to the mix. Translate the 'birthday problem' into powerball terms, use the average ticket sales figure in lieu of 'people in the room' and the number of possible draws as 'birthdays'. I'm guessing the average ticket sales put the odds of one of the draws matching the jackpot-winning draw somewhere in the neighborhood of 33% of the time. This would guarantee some roll-overs

2 most recent Powerball winners
Hmm - just typed a post and it disappeared! Well, what I wrote was that I doubt if the games are rigged, but I don't like the way they're always changing. A few years ago, when FL increased the numbers to 53, I felt cheated, as if all my previous plays were wiped out, since the odds were increased dramatically. Then they started to have 2 draws each week, which forces someone who plays the same numbers to spend more. Although the odds are astronomical, someone who bets every Sat certainly wouldn

Hey, I got 4 of 5 on one ticket, MB on
No, my tickets were not quick-picks. I generate my numbers through some software I wrote a long time ago. It is a kind of wheeling program, except that it is designed to wheel through the entire field, not a limited subset of numbers. I would never dream of wheeling through subsets, since my impression is that it reduces your odds of winning to do it that way, although if you do win with subset wheeling, you win slightly bigger amounts than you would have otherwise. The program is not desi

How we do Powerball in New Kidcon
There's a whole new dimension to when you play Powerball in NK. As always you can turn up the power with PowerPlay, but you even add a whole new charge altogether with Powerball Plus! It's the cheaper, in-state version of Powerball that you can play with Powerball or by itself. Each play costs 20 cents (you heard right, 20 cents), and a full 5-play playcard is just $1. And whats more, whenever you buy a $10 Powerball with Powerplay, you get to play those same 5 lines in PB+ absolutely free! So i

Stalking & Identity Theft:U.R. at RISK !!
Most State Lotteries (except DE, maybe others) have Open Records laws or FOI laws COMPELLING winners to participate in the Media Circus that follows a big strike. Lotteries claim it is necessary to preserve the integrity of the games. I see it as the best way to further the lottery's PROMOTIONAL AGENDA by FORCING the winner to pose in front of the media with a big cardboard check and the director. I doubt the winner realizes the risk to his/her personal safety and that of their family's in

Powerball sales skid hurts lottery profits
Jimmy Sand, you write, Impossible odds to impossible payouts? The lottery would have to have a payout around 80% for that kind of prize, and the jackpot would be the only prize. I take it you have no idea how lottery payouts work, or at least need to find yourself a odds calculator. Otherwise the king of the world might find himself bankrupt from being too generous with prizes. First, I DO know how lottery payouts work and have no need for an odds calculator. Second, you'd be surprised at how m

Lotto South can be a giant
I think that would be a bad idea. Lotto South is currently in three states: Georgia, Kentucky and Virginia. Those three states already have giant jackpot games (Georgia: MegaMillions, Kentucky: PowerBall, Virginia: MegaMillions). There are MANY people in these 3 states who prefer 6/49 lottery games over all other types of games for a couple of reasons: They have reasonable jackpots and they have relatively reasonable odds of winning (compared to the huge jackpot games). There are basically 3

Powerball Lottery States Vote to Change Game
The 29 lotteries that participate in the Powerball game have voted to make changes that will boost the average jackpot size, but also will boost the odds of winning.Starting Aug. 29, the beginning jackpot will increase to $15 million from the current $10 million, the Multi-State Lottery Association announced Wednesday. The top prize will grow by no less than $5 million between each drawing. Lottery games need to be changed from time to time, to respond to both player demands and population chang

Opinion: CA legislators should keep public in the loop about lottery
EditorialOakland TribuneSo, what do we do about the California Lottery? For the past four or so years, the lottery has been static, bringing in about $2 billion a year. The state Lottery Commission believes that joining Mega Millions, which generated a record jackpot of $363 million in 2002, will provide an economic boost for the state by luring more people into playing the lottery, generating more revenue, 34 percent of which goes to state schools. But state Sen. Dean Florez, D-Bakersfield, chair
