Buying more tickets = reduced odds
it doesn't work like that...let's use the simplicity of the pick 3... 1,000 possible straight combinations (ignore boxes for the purpose of the discussion...)you buy 1 ticket (1 combo out of 1,000)... you leave 999 uncovered possibilities...you buy 2 tickets (2 combos out of 1,000)... you leave 998 uncovered possibilities... by your formula above it would be a reduction from 1:1000 to 1:500, but you leave 498 combos unaccounted for.....they may express odds as a fraction, but that does not mean

Humorous Article On Mega Millions
Pretty funny.......I've read a few articles like this over the years and it seems to me that they all have one thing in common - they were all written by people who don't understand what lotteries are all about. In Australia, each Thursday sees the drawing of Powerball, which is similar to Mega Millions except it's 5-from-45 and 1-from-45, which makes the odds of selecting all 6 numbers a shade under 55 million to 1. The jackpot (or division 1 as it's called over here) starts at 2 million Austra

Best way to predict numbers
Anyone who wins the lottery beats extraordinary odds. The ratio of numbers of people who win by quick picks and number of people who win by picking their own numbers is probably (I have no data) slightly higher than you would expect from the ratio of quick pick tickets bought to the number of people who pick their own numbers. This is because many people who pick their own numbers do a poor job of expanding the covered field size. This is because people tend to play their birthdates and they whe

Open Discussion: Define/Refine Prediction
Straight position programmersWhat I have in my system is the ability to pull 4 different groups in each position 1-2 3or4 for the four game. I have created different size wheels in both games and have had pick 3 and 4 straight hits come from the wheels. The tryout wheels varied in size for the amount of plays generated. When tracking the 3 and 4 game with the versabet it tells me when a combo group is ripe. Like all evens, all odds 1 even 2 odds etc. I like the all even and all odds as they are t

How is it possible?
You know I have to say something about that a lot of skeptics always bring this up did you win more than you lost? or how many times did you lose before you won?Well we don't necessarily look at it like that because if we did no one would gamble. The Casino gamblers can lose tens of thousands of dollars before they finally come out ahead. In lottery gambling we don't spend BIG money like they do so our losses don't add up to there's and they keep gambling. In Casino and Lottery gambling we know the

How is it possible?
Quote: Originally posted by prob987 on February 13, 2004 I have seen data that states that 70% of the tickets purchased overall are quick-picks. I would guess that a large percentage of those who take the time and trouble to fill out their own cards have a system of some sort or another. If we assume that half of 30% who fill out their own cards have a system, then we should see 15% of winners attributing their wins to systems just by dumb luck. However, if the systems worked, they would

How is it possible?
Quote: Originally posted by whodeani on February 11, 2004 Quote: Originally posted by prob987 on February 11, 2004 A wheeler in California won about four or five years ago, and won the 1st prize, the second prize, the third prize, etc. Lottery officials were amazed by this. The reason they were amazed is that they'd never seen such a situation before. The reason they'd never seen it is because wheelers are less likely to win than the purchasers of quick picks. The majority of winners buy qu

Probability of a rollover in PB and MM
Actually there are relatively few cases of double and triple winners in these long odds games, particularly in the earlier going when the numbers of tickets sold are relatively low. In any case, a probability is only a probability: Any nonzero probability is still a very real possibility. That is something we all believe since we all play the lottery and there are long odds against us actually winning. (I actually was not aware of the lottoreport site (Thank you!) and have up until now esti

MM Tuesaday Draws to view( a big one)
well I still have my QP from thursday morning, so I'm not sidelined just yet... I also already have 2 interviews lined up for monday morning (wasting no time). Already set up Unemployment Compensation benefits to hold us over and my wife has had a better job than me since the first outsourcing incident, so given the situations it's more of a temporary setback than a catastrophic end. I'm really sick of having my life at the mercy of rampant mismanagement and politicians bent on making this a n
