Where to put the money?
I love questions like this because I think it's fun to speculate about what you would do with millions of dollars won in a big lottery. I have thought about this long and hard over the years and here's what I have come up with: 1. Know yourself. If I won a big jackpot...say over $20 million net...and I mean net after all taxes are paid...I would want to make absolutely sure my future and my money was secure. As I have little tolerance for risk (in investment terms) and I plan to live a low

Setting a trust for anonymity: how does it work?
KY, yes I did read that story. I also read a lot - believe me, A LOT - similar cautionary stories pointing to the same bottom line... JW is not the only one but just one of the many... It's not about the mistakes JW made, it is about the pitfalls inherent to not claiming your jackpot with absolute anonymity. I realize that by claiming such things here I have been upsetting that artificial sense of security deriving from a not too realistic view that many here want to believe, which is along the

Retailers luckier than expected, Atlantic Lotto says
Could massive theft and/or deception by retailers be the reason? Lottery ticket sellers won 10 times more often than statistically they should have over the last six years, the Atlantic Lottery Corp. said Wednesday. So far, the review hasn't shown any wrongdoing by retailers in the four Atlantic provinces, an official said. Can I statistically explain why retailers are winning 10 times more? No, I can't, and I'm not going to sit here and speculate as to why, said Mike Randall, a corp

Australian lottery sale proposal 'a gamble'
A NSW opposition plan to sell NSW Lotteries to help pay for drought projects would amount to a gamble on the security of the state's water resources, Premier Morris Iemma says. Opposition Leader Peter Debnam wants to sell NSW Lotteries, from which the government earned $381 million in 2005/06, to help pay for a $1 billion drought-proofing water fund. It's expected a coalition government would earn around $800 million from the sale, details of which Mr Debnam will finalise after consulting
