The problem with systems
I thought it was a duty to bring this topic up because reality becomes more apparent as you grow older, I should say as I grow older LOL The problem with systems is that they don't get a fair fight. They used to, but until a few years ago, they weren't subjected to many augmentations in the draw process. And that act by Florida ( the govt which changed laws) triggered a phenomenon that was four or five times more complicated than the original equation for finding a system. In other words,

Las Vegas: How gambling distorts reality and hooks your brain :-(
There is an on going discussion about playing the mega jackpot games knowing the next to impossible odds against winning a jackpot. I suppose technically it's called gambling and could become compulsive, but over $400 a year bet on MM and PB is not even close to some of the casino, horse and dog racing, and other lottery games bets I saw over the years. After losing a few hundred on my first trip to Reno I came to the conclusion, if I'm going to gamble I must learn how to play each game and

Is it worth playing the lottery with those odds?
Sarge0202, Good points about Illinois. I wish Lucky Day (then Little Lotto) was still 5/30 with a stable $200,000 jp. ///////////////////////////////////////// As for the thread title; Is it worth playing the lottery with those odds? Maybe when you ask yourself that question you should,'t be playing those games.

Is it worth playing the lottery with those odds?
3 and 4 numbers? I get 3 numbers rarely and never had 4 numbers. In MM, you have 1 in over 600 to do a 2 + 1 or a 3 for a whopping 10$ on a 2$ ticket. To get a 3+1 it's 1 in 14,000 and for a 4 match it 1 in 39,000 for a $200 or 500$ prize. Meanwhile in the illinois lottery, you have a 1 in 32,000 chance for about a 1,250$ prize (with the 2$ ticket option). The Luckyday has a 1 in 6,000 chance to win $200 for a 1$ ticket. So unless you have a system (or luck) that lets you match even 4 num

Is it worth playing the lottery with those odds?
Powerball and mega relies on people s greed and desperation. I rarely play unless I m in a small town in bum snip Egypt and something makes me feel like it. Stick to scratch offs. There s always going to be a prize in a roll of scratch offs...even if you end up with some losers (though it s not always worth chasing that winner because if you have to buy 3 more tickets to make up for the 3 tickets you lost, it usually only ends up covering the cost of 1 or 2 tickets). For $2, I can buy a $

New State New Opportunities?
The lottery games vary from state to state so it's hard to advise without knowing the state you're in. Strategy would be, if a nice 5/36 game or smaller, to win Pick-5 and use some of the prize to finance winning Pick-6 being able to play the way you'd want. However, if the Pick-6 is 6/49 or smaller and you're looking at 5/39 or worse, then there are some advantages to sticking with the Pick-6. For example, there is usually an additional prize tier, and wheeling is stronger covering more n

Is it worth playing the lottery with those odds?
Your analogy isn't even in the same ballpark unless you eat your losing PB and MM tickets. And are you really paying $8-10 for a burger? yet if we win the lottery..... But this thread is not about winning; it's about how difficult it is to win because of the odds. The top three MM jackpots created by $1 tickets and 651,915,940 $1 tickets were sold on 3/30/2012. At $2 a ticket that requires $1,303,831,880 in sales or 130,383,188 burgers. I'm not saying don't play or it's foolish to pla

Is it worth playing the lottery with those odds?
Why would the chance that somebody else will win a jackpot have anything to do with whether or not it makes sense for me to play? I said: wouldn't it make more sense to wait until ticket sales give at least a 50% chance of somebody winning the jackpot? And that was based on the fact there were only three MM jackpot winners in the last 90 drawings. The question is it worth playing the lottery with those odds I was simply pointing out that the majority of MM and PB drawings will have no j

$422 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot is red hot
19th-largest U.S. jackpot of all time By Todd Northrop The multi-state Mega Millions lottery game continued its Summer climb Tuesday night, and is now at the point where jackpot rolls are sharply increased. After nobody won Tuesday night's grand prize, the Mega Millions jackpot grew to an estimated $422 million the 19th-largest U.S. lottery jackpot of all time, and the biggest since a $533 million Mega Millions jackpot from the March 30 drawing was claimed by a New Jersey man.
