Why Quick Picks win...Hint: It's *NOT* what you think, folks!
Perhaps I should have called the thread WHY SELF PICKS DO NOT WIN instead of a positive based assumption regarding QPs. But in theory, as KY Floyd points out, or seems to, each combo has an equal theoretical chance of winning. Most of gambling geeks who read that a majority of winning combos are 2/3 odd even or vice versa pick from those sets, while QPs will choose at random between ALL possible combo sets, whih in the end, gives them their subtle micro edge in real world terms, capish?

The vastness of the odds for a jackpot win...
The odds against being born, ignoring the odds against your parents becoming lovers, are something like one in 70 trillion. The odds of your parents both existing is that number squared.
So what?

Quick Picks
Switching stores isn't going to change anything. A quick pick is exactly that, a quick pick. If you really really want to increase your odds(by a lot too), learn C++ and make your own software. Visual Basic would be easier to learn, and you can improve your odds with it as well, but if you're looking to improve your odds by millions and millions, then you want code that will execute very fast. Some of my filters require so much speed, I had to convert my program to C++ because my VB program woul

Do you believe you'll win a large jackpot in your lifetime?
I definitely do. If there's anything that I'm good at, it's math. Although I do have a system for PowerBall, the odds of hitting PowerBall's jackpot, whether it be with a system or not, is insanely high. So I decided to convert it to a Pick 6 system for Hoosier Lotto, which is 1 : 12,271,512. At the moment, it can effectively cut the odds down to anywhere between 1 : 130,000 and 1 : 260,000, depending on a certain variable that I set before I run the program. I usually play 1 set with a less agg

The odds the Jackpot reached $390 million are...
What are the odds of winning the MEGA MILLIONS Jackpot?
The answer is 1 in 175,711,536.
Since all the parameters are known, i.e.
- the odds of winning the MEGA MILLIONS Jackpot: 1 in 176 million;
- the price for each bet
- the distribution of the revenue from those bets, in particular which percent goes to the jackpot;
- how the jackpot increased week after week until reaching the record of $390 million
... it should be peanuts for you to calculate what are the odds that the Jackpot c

Probabilty of Someone Winning a PB & MM Jackpot in the same Week!
The other combinations are not just disappearing into thin air. When we say buying 2 tickets will give you 1 in 87,855,768 odds of winning, it doesnt mean the other 87,855,768 combinations just disappeared. Think of it this way, if you buy two tickets, split the total combinations in half, then you will have one ticket give you odds of 1 in 87,855,768 of winning and the other ticket will give you another 1 in 87,855,768 odds of winning. So all the combinations are there, just the combinations

Probabilty of Someone Winning a PB & MM Jackpot in the same Week!
Lets take your example of 1 in 140M. Sure when everytime a person buys another ticket, the POSSIBILITY (Not odds) of winning is increased by 1 for that player. But lets say 70M people buy one ticket, each with a different combination, then the odds of the lottery being(or someone winning) hit is 1 in 2 or 50%. ODDS are different then POSSIBILITES. I think thats whats confusing you. I dont know how better to explain it. I'm not a very articulate person.

Lotteries long for 'jackpot fever'
I agree! If you want better odds, play another game, there's certainly plenty out there. I also think it would be a good idea to increase smaller prize amounts as well as odds, but I think the larger odds for the jackpot should remain the same. Maybe increase the number of bonus balls and decrease the general pool of balls? I know I get excited when the jackpots grow, I never really think I'll win and typically play $5 a draw when the pot grows to 100 mil and $10 when it gets to 200. I always r

Michigan Post 2/5-2/11
Here's an observation I'd like to share with the team: Although this tier system is relatively new, following only since November, I have noticed that sometimes when either evens or odds show in the higher tiers, there's a chance they will fall. Most high tier wins come from evens or odds. A lot of times when I see these numbers in the higher tiers, they will fall, but in a lower tier. This happened twice this week in IL, where pure odds were in the high tiers, and they fell back to back i

Mass. Lottery officials concerned about big revenue dip
It sounds like the lack of a cash option in MA Megabucks and in many of its scratch games finally is catching up to MA. While only NY has higher sales, MA actually needs to look at other states' cash/annuity policies.
I beg to differ with dvdiva that MM has the lowest prize/odds of any large jackpot game. The overall odds of winning in MM is 1:40, and its smallest prize is $2. NY has a game with overall odds (per $1) of 1:46, and its smallest prize is one dollar.
