A Lottery Delema--Winfall or just fall?
What I wrote to Ambelambas post was from the heart. it has nothing to do with being nice. It's simply the truth at least for now. I know what this person is going through because I lived it. I am still growing in my faith but like i said--especially after what I went through the last couple of years the fear of growing old without financial security is a strong fear as well. But Ambelambas post and discussing that movie with my friends did get me to thinking. How far are people's needs for money

Should Lottery Commissions Be Obligated To Maintain Your Anonymity?
I believe it is the lottey's duty to maintain anyone's anonymity at the request of the winner. I believe it is the winner's right to expect their wish of anonymity to be respected. Worrying about the possibility of corruption is the least of my worries. To me the primary concern is the possibilities of what could happen to the winner because of some greedy, selfish person who believe they are entitled to share the wealth by force. Corruption can be exposed and prosecuted. The loss of a lif

How many pre-test draws are normal?
On numerous occasions the Maryland's ball machines lottery failed to turn on. Several times the ball didn't pop up possibly a vacuum problem once some idiot behind the pick 3 machine stepped on the electric cord and the plug pulled out of the socket. I'm sure on many instances this happened in other states as well or something similar I've seen You-tube vids of a ball completely flying out of the machine.. It is pretty much an industry standard in all states that use balls to conduct pre t

Internet Gambling Law will be voted on and passed in December
Yea setting up an account is easy it's funding the account thats difficult. Besides being against the law. The banks and money transfer sites have a bill attached to homeland security that forbids them from allowing US citizens to place money in offshore gambling sites. There is a way to fund an account but using a wire transfer WU. Would you trust them to wire any winnings back to you. Are you prepared to deal with the feds if you get caught breaking the law. Having your banking accounts fro

More shenannigans from the Illinois Lottery
i happen to know someone who works for KPMG (the auditors of the illinois state lottery) and he says its all on the up and up. everything is tested, the balls are weighed before and after the drawings, the machines are tested etc etc. he said it was almost overkill how much security they take into account for this. i should ask about the raffle drawings tho - a lottery official told me a computer makes the selections - GREAT! why wouldnt they at least have the 4 million dollar winn

What's to prevent Scientific Games or Lottery employees buying winners?
Hope security is tighter. So Scientific Games manufactures the scratchers for all states or most of them? Their employees actually can go to the database at SG and say Ticket #650-041174-031 is a $2,000,000 winner? And I read many on here say the state lotteries know which batch of tickets is sent to each city or county and they control how the bigger winners are spread out around the state. IF NOT. then a scratcher produces a 1,000 books (each book with 100 tickets), and the game has 2

Live drawing fluke puts Maryland lottery machine maker in spotlight
I like this news story because it provides a great, visual distinction between real lottery drawings (like the Florida Lottery's) and computerized drawings that are used in some states. When there is a problem or glitch with a real drawing, everyone can see it -- the drawing hostess, the security staff, and even YOU, watching at home. If this was a computerized drawing and a problem occured, guess what would happen. Nothing. You would never know about the problem and, judging from history,

Working Scratch of tactics thread
Hi, just reporting they finally gave me my check. The first time I drove 80 miles to the lottery office they wouldn't accept the receipt from the Social security office, so I had to wait another week for the actual replacement card to arrive! Well this morning I went back with the card, they gave me a $1000 check and a free coffee mug. I deposited the check in my bank. Looking forward to my next scratch day I've been collecting lots of $5 tickets of one kind with a large number of unclaimed p

There is no reason Mega Millions and Powerball can't allow jackpot winners to remain anoymous
What they really want is a good story to help them sell more tickets, i.e. make even more money, the next time around. For the lottery it is all about the money. You should try looking carefully at your lottery's rules though, I think there can be a way around the anonymous thing even if they say there isn't. I've read my states laws and it states that if a company claims a lottery prize, then all of the officer's for the company (ex. President, Vice-President, etc.) have to submit their social
