I stopped playing Powerball and Mega Millions when I realized this: Mega Millions 3+1: Play $2, odds 1:14,547, prize $200. I consider this a ripoff because 3-ball: Play $1, odds 1:1000, prize $500 in most states. Higher prize, much better odds, and lower investment. 4-ball: Play $1, odds 1:10,000, prize $5000 in most states. Much higher prize, better, odds, and lower investment. I will not play Mega Millions unless, for example, the 3+1 prize goes up to $14,500 on a $2 ticket

I've discovered a relationship in the Powerball draws which improves the odds of a 5 white ball hit by a factor of 35.7. 69 choose 5 = 11,238,513, so the odds of a 5W hit are 1 in 11,238,513, assuming the balls are equally likely to be picked.
