Do some number combinations have better odds?
You are absolutely correct. I know nothing about physical chemistry. I never claimed to. I don't think you do understand the relevance of standard deviation. The relevance is that any results that aren't taken out to the point where the standard deviation is sufficiently small compared to sample size is meaningless because randomness allows for events with a few standard deviations to occur regularly. That's why I used the coinflip as an example. Flipping a coin 100 times would give you

Do some number combinations have better odds?
I also don't know what you mean by the mean is about 7. We were talking about beating probability and a group of 28 numbers should match five numbers once every 39 drawings. In 39 drawings, the mean is 1 and in game history, about 300 drawings, the mean is around 7. I pointed out there are groups of 28 numbers that matched five numbers in 7 consecutive drawings so we know it's possible to do much better than 1 in 39. It's not really an anomaly because there is a probability out of X numb

New York: 12/1 - 12/31/2012
Hi Long Odds, Not only did this number hit 30 days ago on Nov.17, 2012, it also came out exactly one year ago on Dec.17 evening draw as 3246. For now I have not been playing win -4 period. It seems that every time I drop a number it comes out. These are the numbers I dropped and they came out several days to two weeks later: 4403, 5005, 4531, 4578, 6102. It's difficult to keep 5 to 7 numbers in daily with the two plays daily, so when I drop one that's when it hit. NUMBER PATTERN I HAVE WIT

RL's Digit Master Pro Big Game software download.
RL, Nothing wrong with your thinking. I'm interested in what everybody is thinking. I do understand the idea of 17 people splitting a small jackpot. Texas Cash 5 is pari-mutuel. Jackposts have been decreasing, running average of $23,000 for a single winner. A win like that split 17 ways would net each person about $852.35. Frenchie, That is a fair point. But the front digit in 5/39 game can only be be 0 - 3, whereas the front digit in 5/56 can be between 0 - 5. As you say, that in

Do I blame my mother or my brother?
We have a pick-5 game here in Mass called Mash Cash. It is a 5/35 game so decent odds at winning the top prize of 100K. 4 of 5 pays $250 and you get $10 for matching three. The game is drawn nightly and I have 3 regular numbers that I play. One of those numbers consists of the birthdays of myself, my three siblings and my daughter. My numbers are 6-13-19-20-26 Last nights draw- 7-13-19-20-26 So if my A-hole brother had just been born one day later I would have hit for the 100K. So my

$425 MILLION: Largest Powerball lottery jackpot in history
NY has been hitting left and right and NY is only a fraction of all the PB/MM players throughout the states. It just doesn't add up to the 175 million odds for them to have hit so many times this year. And I am not talking about 2nd prize winnings either, it seems like almost every jackpot this year was hit by NEW YORK Of all 42 states that have PB, do you know which state usually has the highest amount of PB ticket sales? It's New York. For the 11/21/2012 drawing, total sales of PB was

$425 MILLION: Largest Powerball lottery jackpot in history
I'll get my usual one set of numbers for $2. I've always been baffled at why people spend real amounts of $$$, like $20 on 10 sets of numbers, when that's only covering 10 of more than 175 million combinations of numbers. Tonight on my one set, I got 2 of 6 numbers, and 2 others were 1 digit off. I know someone who spent $10 on 5 sets, and got only 1 number on 1 of the 5 sets. Plus I've been in past work lottery pools with anywhere from 50 - 100 sets of numbers, and typically that resulted in 3

New Fla. Lottery raffle to make a millionaire every week
Connecticut has jumped on the raffle bandwagon too. They've been running a SuperDraw twice a year since 1/1/2011. Second draw of each year is held on The 4th of July. Each drawing has a guaranteed top prize winner of 1 million dollars. Tickets are 10 dollars each, a max of 275,000 are sold. If tickets dont sell out, and they didnt sell out for one of the drawings, then they draw from however many tickets do sell. Top prize is $1,000,000 with lower tier prizes as well. Overall odds

New York Dream Team 11/1/12 - 11/30/12
Thanks Long Odds I am thinking 8510 8512 which is sum 14 and 16 should be good for $100 bucks. but the 2225 5552 would be a nice payday. I dont really play win 4 but the skip of the 5 caught my eye. If the 5 goes into a perfect flag formation, it should hit within three to 4 draws. I have to check to see if dub 2 or dub 5 is more probable.
