POWERBALL CREATES WORLD'S FIRST BILLION-DOLLAR JACKPOT
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who knows what it s like to suddenly become incredibly wealthy has some tips (some practical and some philosophical) for the winner or winners. Hire a tax attorney first. Don t take the lump sum. You don t want to blow it all in one spot. (I don't agree with him on this one. The opposite of not taking a lump sump is taking the annuity) If you weren t happy yesterday you won t be happy tomorrow. It s money. It s not happiness. If you were happy yesterday,

Interesting happening within our lottery-pool at work... no not really
Well, sorry to say I think your girl crossed the line. I ran a lottery pool for a group for 3 or 4 years. 1st we had a signed agreement, signed by all with copies to all. I collected the funds, bought ALL the tickets and distributed them via picture copies via the email to all the players, prior to the drawing. If someone didn't get the money to me in time, they bought their ticket, put their name on it and sent it to me to distribute as part of the group play. It was decided in writing, i

Traveling out of state to buy lottery tickets?
From USA MEGA. If I live in a state that taxes prizes, but bought my ticket in a state with no tax on prizes, do I still need to pay state tax? Yes, you do. Think of lottery prizes as regular earned income from a job. Just because you may work in a different state, that doesn't permit you to get away with not paying state income tax in your state of residence. The lottery works the same way. Whether it's income from a job or income from gambling, the state where the money is wo

POWERBALL CREATES WORLD'S FIRST BILLION-DOLLAR JACKPOT
You're ignoring the fact that we're currently already more than 1/3 of the way there, and perhaps you're also forgetting that the odds of a roll on the drawing that brings it to (or past) $2.69 billion aren't part of the probability (though it certainly may affect the number of winners we finally get). If sales for this drawing increase by just 5% we'll see a jump of $442 million and sales of 463 million tickets. Do it 2 more times and the jackpot will roll from $2.275 billion, and a comparat

I think that powerball has crossed the line what do you think?
I knew it would take less than a day for someone to post something like this. First, kindly stop the nonsense of trying to dictate what people should or shouldn't have. That's not your call to make and unless you've taken a vow of poverty is insanely hypocritical. Second, UK players were upset that ticket prices went up and that the odds of winning decreased. Big JPs weren't the issue. Third, enough with the wussification of EVERYTHING. The only losers in life are the ones too afraid

POWERBALL CREATES WORLD'S FIRST BILLION-DOLLAR JACKPOT
I think I read that $.80 cents of each ticket goes to payouts so the states are making $1.20 for each ticket sold. Since most players will not win anything, including the off shore purchases then the big JP is bringing in a lot of money from all over the world. A buyout, even if possible based on the time it would take to secure all the tickets is not a good investment as the risk of multiple winners could put them in the red. $2.00 is chicken feed these days and I will buy another t

$900 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot to create unimaginable wealth
Meanwhile the median yearly household income in the US is $51,939 ($24,062 for individual income). Multiply this number by 40 for lifetime earnings and you get just above 2 million (for a household) Considering that, 500 million cash option is 250 times the median lifetime household income in the US. Chances are high that a person with or below median yearly wages will win. It is simply too much money even if it is split among a few winners. My problem with what is currently hap

Why do people get so emotional and would you tell anyone on big jackpots?
The Powerball sure has ridiculous odds, no doubt. But, you need to play and play and play. We must all play, and play happily, to win. For when we win, we have done it! Perhaps the jp will grow to such an amount as you suggest. It won't be the first time. And, if it does, I suspect it won't be the last either. Let's all play seriously, this year. Let's play like we mean it. (what on earth am I talking about? I shouldn't bug these people with my do-goody-good nonsense.
