Applications of Probability and Statistics
In the above statement you state the kinds of fallacious reasoning that is used to concoct some of these unscientific lottery theories . And then, you have the nerve to say The lotteries are Random! They are not truely random. The only time that they would be random is if they were drawn in a vacumn. The machines are man made, the balls are man made, they are put into the machines in a given order, the entire process of turning on the machine having the balls come out is less than 15 seconds. I

What's with NY Sweet Million??
I knew what you meant, but I was trying to get you to buy five separate tickets with the same number, so you could claim some tickets this year and some tickets next year (lol), but you got the hint, but then your picture wouldn't be on the NY Lottery web-site as the five million dollar winner if you wait until after January 1, 2012 to claim some of the tickets.
So, what do you think of my succes in winning something in 3 out of 4 SM drawings so far during promo month picking my own numbers?

What is the Roman Numeral for zero for all the pick-3 and pick-4 players?
The Romans didn't have a numeral for zero, but instead used the Latin nulla, meaning nothing . That allowed for counting how many toes you had even after a gruesome chariot accident, but mathematically it's very different than zero. As a result their pick III game had odds of I in DCCXXIV, while pick IV was I in MMMMM MDLXI.
When counting on your toes, do you start with your left foot little to bigger and and reve

PLAY NO EVIL-
Hey CT et al , do appreciate your contuning interest albeit often in loyal defense of the casino business.
Regarding sleight of hand personell of the past, I personally know a stopper I am sure you know of such. This amiable highly talented house dealer is at the ready when players who by luck or by pluck are on a winning streak and pit rotates them into deal so as to change their luck and there are wheel burner croups who are known to clean a roulette table in 30 min. Need a new strategy and motivation
I usually buy my tickets from one store that I trust. When I do buy them, I usually ask the clerk which one he thinks I should get from the $2 ones and sometimes $5 ones (the $1 scratch offs have bad odds in NJ, almost every other one's payouts are the same overall- just with different prize structures.) The reason is just because he usually ends up lucky and because he knows which ones haven't hit a big prize yet. For example, this morning I went to go play a Pick 3. The Clerk added Instant/Bon

Ga midday/ starting wed. Feb. 2
Now...... instead of digits 1,,or 0 check out digits 3,,or 7
No digit 3 or 7 has hit midday for 9 days. There are 100 boxes that DO...have a digit 3 or 7 in them.....and 120 that DO NOT.
Heads/Tails right?
In theory....... a crazzzy person could play 1.00 Box on all of those numbers tommorrow....... and have a 50/50 shot at a win (odds wise). Probability wise.... it would be a lot better.
If either a digit 3,,or 7 hits ....... they could win either 80.00 bucks for a sin

What Does It Take To Win (Mathematically Speaking?)
Jimmy
Why don't you quit being so nice and instead of posting links for us to read just come out
and tell us how our ignorance and severe lack of math skills is placing us in jepordy of
of not being able to make sound decisions that will change our lifes. The reply above to my
post is considered in MO. to be a copout. I would very much like you to show me in correct
form how to calculate the odds for a five hand game with all the possible outcomes based
on all the different pla

Jackpot winner dangers!
The only thing I've ever really thought about is the idea of getting into an accident on my way to Austin to claim my prize. ... knowing that I'd be driving with (essentially) millions in the car would add some paranoia.
Anyone who can run around with millions of dollars in their pocket and not be paranoid probably doesn't understand their situation. As I recall, when the ten (?) machinists in Ohio won about $300 million in '98 two of them were already on the way to Indiana when another con

Are Auto Picks for Mega Millions and Power Balls Generated at The Retailer's Terminal?
I reached out to the Michigan Lottery office, and this afternoon I received a note back from the PR Director, correcting the inaccurate information that started this thread.
The note starts off:
Hi Todd.
We stand corrected. The easy pick numbers are generated at the terminal and recorded by the central system, then printed by the terminal.
I knew this was the case anyway, but it's good to see the lottery send out corrected information. I felt it was necessary to reach out to the lott

Triple 7's hit Midday on 1/23/11.
Remeber NO TRIPLES have hit Evening in 193 consecutive Evening Drawings since July 15th 2010 when 000 popped, so mathematically Triples are still WAY OVERDUE to hit for an Evening Drawing.
Theres 1000 straight numbers to choose from in the pick 3 game, out of those 1,000 straight numbers only 10 are triples. 10 out of 1000 is the equivalent to 1 out of 100. (1,000 / 10 = 100 .)
Therefore mathematically you can expect a triple to hit 1 time in every 100
