code breaking and the LOtto...
Just to prove that cracking an encryption is more difficult than the lotto: http://products.secureserver.net/products/ssl_encryptionstrength_linux.htm read the last paragraph where it say that a 128 bit encryption has 2^128 power possible combinations. I speculate the following. They got supercomputers that can make a trillion calculations per second, some do quadrillion. Before code breakers had to do it by hand. Imagine with a supercomputer it will take 1 second to go through all possi

how often could this actually happen?
If Tennessee has two draws a day (including Sundays) then there were 13 draws from Friday, May 19 midday to (and including) Thursday, May 25 midday, which is where I'm assuming the first repeat occured...0-6-2-8. Well over 99% of the time, 13 different Pick 4 straights will be drawn over the span of 13 games. Since you don't know which combos these will be, you can say that any Pick 4 straight has very close to a .13% chance to be drawn anywhere within 13 consecutive games. This number as a

We're all winners in the great lottery of life
I want to win Lotto. By myself. Not sharing it with others who will reduce my share. I could pay off the house, buy a new car, go on holiday, set up the kids, quit work, buy that weekender, buy a business and still have enough left to have no worries for 20, 40 or 60 years. Unfortunately, winning is one chance in several million, and, with my luck, those odds are too great. But I am here and I have just taken another breath. My mother was born with about 800,000 immature eggs in her

The Meaning of Random Drawing
Seems to me the question of whether the lotteries succeed in achieving random outcomes in their draws is a matter that's easily decided: LOTTOMIKE: Statistics Summary Summary Statistic Current Month Last Month Current Year Last Year Lifetime Picks 91,485 138,398 483,905 53,586 537,955 Hits 391 833 2,805 289 3,094 Hit Ratio 0.43% 0.60% 0.58% 0.54% 0.58% Winnings $22,641 $72,

Are these numbers considered bad??
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought every combo has equal chance of coming out. 1 2 3 4 5 6 have the same chance as 3 12 24 35 44 50. I continually have this argument with a friend in California. He claims that the likelyhood of 1 2 3 4 5 6 coming out is so remote, that no one will ever witness those combos to show for a very long time. My argument with him is that, it will probably take that long for 3 12 24 35 44 50 to come out again. It only looks bias, because of the co

Consecutives
I am trying to find out the number of combinations in a Pick-5 game if you have a consecutive, and no more than 3 consecutives in a row. In other words, you could have the following: 1-2-8-14-30 OR 1-2-3-14-30 But, you could never have something like this: 1-2-3-4-30 Does this make sense? Can anyone tell me the formula for something like this for the number of combinations possible given the parameters above for any given number of balls? For instance, SOUTH CAROLINA has
