PN, no need to look for grand prize winners as there hasn't been one since August 2013. There were a decent amount of GP winners back when the grand prize winning odds were about 1:10,000,000. In September 2013 they re-matrixed and the odds blew up big time. I used to play this on a regular basis pre matrix change, but now it's just throwing your money away.

QUESTION: Please explain California's payout sytem.
Parimutuel betting differs from fixed-odds betting in that the final payout is not determined until the pool is closed: In fixed odds betting, the payout is agreed at the time the bet is sold.

why can't the lottery make a better odds game?
More jackpot winners at cash value say 30 million dollars before taxes.

friend of mine spent last night $150.00 on Mega + Powerball. Is this too much?
Your friend is/was right, the more tickets he buy the more chances he has to win. With the new matrix of 5/75+1/15, each line has odds better than 1:15 of winning at least a dollars. Inspite of all that a $150 didn't do much to change his odds of 1:258,890,850 of winning the jackpot. Unless he had a strategy that required spending $150 he probably didn't do any better than players who spent $15 buying all 15 megaballs of which I was one who matched 2+1 for $5.

is it better to play the Powerball or Megamillions?
I recently looked up the Map of the Continental United States thought about all the convenient stores, gas stations whatever selling MM PB lottery tickets and thought Every once in a while ONE of those spots gets a winner - then l thought about MM's odds and said Astronomical is the word Bud, ..Hope that answers the question. I will play the PB game until they mess with the odds..

Post your scratch ticket results
Thanks! Yes that is a rare find as odds are something like 1 in 3,750 for $1,000. Yet in all these years I can't beat 1 in 300 odds for $500 on $20 tickets. Lottery can be odd.

Another how do I calculate these odds?
Depends on the number of tickets brought for each game. If you don't buy a ticket your odds of winning would be 0 even with 1in10 odds.

Dozens of 'dead people' collected NJ lottery prizes last year
This doesn't surprise me .Well they said you are more likely to be struck by lightening than win the lottery but nobody has actually calculated the odds for dead people to win . As we can see here dead people have better odds than living people because lightening can't kill them or already did lol. But it takes two to tangle so if half dozen dead people now play and win it means probably some half dozen dead people are now working in the lottery department too.

NC Scratch Offs... $20 Tickets seem to be the Best Bet.
Interesting... the way they describe the odds are confusing to me
What's the difference between Approx. Overall Odds and Approx. Combined Odds?
The number of prizes are approximate based on the number of tickets printed.
Chances of winning and the number of prizes are established at the time of printing and will change as prizes are won
So if I'm reading this correctly, the odds are worse if all the tickets aren't printed? Right?
