Grading a Lotto System
jason-eagle,
What you would get back is called the Expected Value of the wager.
Expected Value is the Probability of Winning multiplied by the Payoff IF you Win.
We need more information to answer your question in this case. Specifically, what the publisher means by 1:8.1. In most Pick-3 games, for example, the published odds are 1:1000 for a straight bet, and most states pay $500 for a winning $1 straight ticket. So, in these games, the Expected Value (EV) of a $1 straight ticket purch

Statistics around the balance of even/odd and small/big numbers
Jimmy
Every lottery that I know of uses RNG's and without them there would be no quick-picks. The
purpose for this workout was to show that random QP's are not evenly distributed and large
clumps of similar number sets are produced. This can be tested but is not really necessary.
I view QP's like this. If a lottery like my 5-39 sells 70,000 tickets on any given day and 70% of
those are QP's or 49,000 then what are the odds that the final set will duplicate one of the

Statistics around the balance of even/odd and small/big numbers
RL-RANDOMLOGIC,
Your observation of the difference in the frequency of sets with more or less odd or even numbers is analogous to observing that the sum of the 5 numbers in a majority of sets falls into a minority of the total range of possible sums. The same is true for observing the number of unique digits in a set, or the average spread between the numbers. None of these patterns have anything to do with the probability of any particular set emerging.
They just ARE!
I thought my poi

Have you ever wondered why many lottery retailers are owned by members of certain racial minorities?
It started back in the 1960s by our dearly deceased Teddy Kennedy and all of his Democratic pals. That is when things started really going downhill fast. You see up until that point, almost all legal immigration to the US was from Europe. Now almost all immigration to the US is from third world countries.
These worthless Democrats decided that America needed to be a part of one of the most disastrous social experiments on earth: to become a melting pot, but that the pot needed new ingredients

Lucky and unlucky Scratch-off ticket numbers
If you are going to spend $100, you might try my power buying strategy, but I would only buy $5 tickets, and read the rolls. If you get a $20 winner, then 3 or 4 losers, then a $10 or $15 winner, then I would say you are not near a big prize. If you are going to buy more than one of each ticket, it may be worthwhile to buy them until you hit the overall odds, but then you are stuck with whether to give up, or keep trying. I think you are more likely to find a bigger prize in the bigger tickets,

$750,000 Winner - Jingle Jumbo Bucks - 2010
CarHauler said: Is it just me, or are consecutive ticket wins, in exact order almost nonexistent? I keep hearing that 2 tickets in a row do happen, but I am not sure that it has ever happened to me.
I think it is just as random as several losing tickets in a row. One time I cashed in a $5 winning 'ticket' winner and the cashier was one of those that said 'you HAVE to buy $5 worth of tickets' as opposed to giving me cash. So I got $5 worth of junior jumbos. All 5 were winnners for a grand tot

Let's create a "So what" test
In football, it's all about percentages. You put your team in a position with the most favorable matchups and call the play with the best chance of success. Sometime it works. Sometimes it doesn't. But you come away from that particular experience knowing you did the best you could. Behind the scenes you go back, you look it over, and see what you have to do to correct the problem, if there was one, or continue with the same idea. Lottery is the a lot like that.
Now maybe I missed the point o

Scratch off methods.
Jumbo Jumbo Bucks has been around for quite a while. There are only 28 out of 120 top prizes left. I do not think you have this game in TN, or at least I did not see it listed on the TN website. A lot of the games seem the same, but I was surprised to see that Jingle Jumbo Bucks was only $250,000 in TN whereas the top prize in GA is $750,000. It might be that TN has more top prizes, but they are smaller.
I have nearly given up on Jingle Jumbo Bucks. I have never won more than $20, and it sure

Oregon Lottery creates 2 Thanksgiving millionaires
By Todd Northrop
The Oregon Lottery today held the state's fifth raffle drawing the second it has held near Thanksgiving.
The appropriately-named Thanksgiving Raffle resulted in two new millionaires and over two thousand other prize winners.
A complete list of winning numbers for the drawing can be found at Lottery Post's Oregon Lottery Results page.
This year's Thanksgiving Raffle has twice as many winners as last year's because the lottery doubled the number of available tickets. E
