Acting director named for New York Lottery
A former deputy director of the New York Lottery has been named acting director of the organization. Gurney replaces Robert McLaughlin, who served as Director of the New York Lottery from November, 2006 to August, 2007. Mr. McLaughlin recently accepted a position in the private sector, according to lottery officials. Gurney has worked at the lottery since 1998, and was most recently director of operations and administration in addition to being deputy director. His areas of responsibilit

Hoosier Lotto Will Be Won on August 11 ...
@Lottomike: When it comes to the Hoosier Lottery, the public is indeed blissfully dumb or perhaps more accurately blissfully ignorant. But there is another factor...denial! Many people I talk to simply refuse to believe the Lottery...any Lottery could be corrupt. The most common rebuke I hear is that the lottery has security procedures in place and is too closely monitored to be rigged. When you try to point out the plethora of scandals that have plagued the Hoosier Lottery over the years

Paranoid or Prudent?
@phileight: I would encourage you to do a bit of research on scandals yourself. I didn't go into great detail because of time and space. To address your point...you are at least partially correct...none of the scandals I mentioned were directly related to blocking numbers so no one would win. However... 1. In the Foreman scandal in Indiana the game was rigged so that friends of Mr. Foreman (a Hoosier Lottery Security Guard) would purchase the winning ticket. By default that means someb

Paranoid or Prudent?
Uh ... the lottery is not checked ? The lottery is one of the most checked government organizations. Some use two different independent auditors to check (audit) them. They check not just finances, but the workings and measurements of the equipment, as well as security. I'll repeat here that I think the one area that really suffers is computerized drawings. Because there is no foolproof way to audit the workings of a computer program, computerized drawings are the Achilles heel of ev

no more lottery
I am 33 and also have had my share of over-spending. I try to stick to a budget monthly, and it is hard; especially when hefty jackpots tend to sway you. I also went through the giving up stages, but I am glad I did not give up because my Big 4 win was just around the corner. $2,600) I won it by playing ONE ticket with a number I played for years, and that day was finally the day. I used to play 5-10 tickets at a time, and matched all except one number on many, and straight which made the

if you found a winning ticket that wasn't yours
When I left Vegas in 1993 there as an interesting case going on, I'm not sure what the outcome was. Read on. This is when he casinos first started going to slots that racked up credits instead of dropping coins into the coin tray. A lot of players were used to those old coin tray payouts and would get up and leave thinking they were losers, but they weren't. They were just unaware that the machine they'd been playing had credits on them. Well, there were people who would go through th

Happy Birthday Justxploring
Happy Birthday... THE AWAKENING A time comes in your life when you finally get it . . . When in the midst of all your fears and insanity you stop dead in your tracks and somewhere the voice inside your head cries out - ENOUGH! Enough fighting and crying or struggling to hold on. And, like a child quieting down after a blind tantrum, your sobs begin to subside, you shudder once or twice, you blink back your tears and through a mantle of wet lashes you begin to look a

Cops bust 2 men who stole 3,000 lottery tickets
Two men who allegedly made off with 3,000 lottery tickets from a Chinatown, California, liquor store are in custody, along with a woman accused of trying to cash some of the tickets, thanks to a school principal who recognized two of the suspects as the parents of one of his students, police reported. The woman, who is not suspected of taking part in the Feb. 20 robbery, allegedly visited a liquor store in Highland Park the next day in an unsuccessful attempt to try to cash some of the stolen

working out syndicate groups?
The people that run the pools at my job are straightforward about the rules. They print a list of people that have paid and that are already in the pool. Then they post a copy of that list and a copy of the pool tickets on the bulletin board at work. This way there is no confusion and its there for everyone to see; even the security camera can see the list and tickets. The main rule is, if you don't pay up, your name doesn't go on that list plain and simple. When you do pay up, a new lis
