Why I think quick picks suck
Yup. Same thing with NY lotto on Saturday night: 7, 24, 36, 52, 54, 55. Plenty of people would look at those numbers and ask about the odds of the winning combination having 3 numbers in the 50's. Sure, that's less likely than other distributions, but the odds of that specific combination coming up, like any other combination, are about 1 in 22 million.

What to do with $1000 for lottery
If the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 14,000,000 and you buy 1,000 tickets(combinations) for a single drawing, then your odds of winning ARE INDEED 1 in 14,000. We've had this debate on LP before. It's math. It's fractions.

north carolina scratcher tips
Hey D and C, Welcome to LP. Yes, the more cost for a ticket = higher payout with lower odds. Here in SC I play only $10 or $5 dollar scratchers. It is always wise to do some research into each individual ticket type to determine odds, number of winners, prize amts., etc. Good Luck! p.s.- Have you ever gone postal ?

Quick Picks Are NOT Random
I didnt mean rigged like the lottery was behind it. I just meant predictable which it isnt supposed to be. The odds are SUPPOSED to be 1:180,000,000 or whatever it is to win Powerball. Not less than 1:50,000. The odds should be 1:36 to win a prize, not 1:3. If everyone used my system, in the long run, the players would be +EV versus the house and the jackpots would never increase.

California Gov. calls for expanding, privatizing lottery
I am not sure how having more games is going to increase revenue. They seem to have all the bases covered with a large jackpot lottery (SuperLotto Plus), smaller jackpot game (fantasy 5), daily games (daily 3 and 4), and scratchers. I don't think decreasing the odds of SupperLotto Plus in order to get larger jackpots is a good idea. We already have one low odds to win jackpot game with Mega Millions.

How about this as a system?
@kjs703: The hand-picked numbers will have better odds, but without knowing the game you're referring to, and how many numbers are on the no-match tickets (this will actually vary from drawing to drawing), we can't tell you what the new-and-improved odds are.

70% probability powerball numbers!!
If a system has a (true) 70% probability of success, the odds of it failing 2 times in a row are 9%. The odds of it failing 3 times in a row are 2.7%... that's not to claim any certain pair of numbers are due. That just tells you what the system should do.

powerball changes
The odds are high enough already. Maybe they will offer a $1 jackpot
kicker. I don't know why they have the powerplay option and no jackpot
kicker option. PowerBall is a Jackpot game after all.
I really don't understand why anyone would want powerplay on prizes smaller then $10,000. Geez! The odds of winning 10 grand on powerball are about the same as winning the jackpot on Fantasy 5 and the odds of winning 200 grand on powerball are about the same as a 6/40 game so I can see why someo

I'll never win any Jackpot
With odds of 1:7.3, getting a 2/6 frequently can be expected. When I play Ohio Rolling Cash5, I usually get a 2/5 often which has odds of 1:10.

Whats the odds probability?
Assuming none of the tickets have the same combinations, your odds of winning the jackpot are the same as they would be if you bought all your tickets in the same place (120:175,711,536). Since the overall odds of winning something are 1:39.8, you can expect to win three smaller prizes.
