MUSL seeks to dismiss lawsuit over rigged jackpot
A group of state lotteries has asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a jackpot winner who argues he was shortchanged by millions of dollars because the prior drawing was rigged by one of its employees. In court documents filed this week, the Multi-State Lottery Association argued that Iowa resident Larry Dawson does not have legal standing to sue because his claimed injury is merely speculative and hypothetical, and therefore cannot be redressed. Dawson, of Webster City, filed the l

New York Dream Team 03/01/16 - 03/31/16
Upstate New York... Forget Rednecks.... If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you live in Upstate New York. If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you live in Upstate New York. If Vacation means going anywhere south of New York City for the weekend, you live in Upstate New York. If you measure distance in hours, you live in Upstate New York. If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you live in Upstate New York.

California Lottery officials seized surveillance footage from store that sold Powerball ticket
Whoever bought the winning Powerball ticket from a Chino Hills, California, 7-Eleven remains a mystery, even to the store's owner. Balbir Atwal, who made national news last week when the public learned that his store had sold one of the jackpot-winning tickets, said he has no idea who the winner is. And he can't even look it up. Lottery officials seized the store's security camera footage and other materials that could contain clues about the winner's identity. California Lottery spokesman

More lottery winners using trusts to accept prizes anonymously
A few comments / questions about the Power Ball Lotto game - and tonight is gonna be rough on small retail stores. Which brings up the first comment. The reasoning to reveal the Winner(s) of the jackpot is to show that there IS a real winner(s), not some scam, scheme, etc. Well, even IF winner(s) aren't plastered on every TV channel, newspaper, I would assume that someone or a couple of someone's WON, right? I don't need to see them or their picture holding a monster check. A. It is dangerou

Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich answers your questions
Hello all LP members, *Sigh* It is too bad and someone made an excellent point in the form of a question. Something like, Are the RNG's (computerized drawings) for the benefit of the lottery staff, or for the benefit of the players? Yes, I thought the whole idea was for player enjoyment. It seems that Mr. Rich made that sort of clear in one answer where he claims RNG's are here to stay. The problem is that almost everyone that actually PLAYS the lottery would feel more secure seeing b

Very good time to win the mega millions tonight
Thanks. Not sure about those books, though (grin). My operative mantra in all things lottery-related is a quote from the movie, Catch 22, where Alan Arkin said, Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't really coming after you. (grin). You'll notice that my site doesn't mention the Villegas couple by name ... only the case that screwed them out of their anonymity. Sadly, their names have had more than their fair share of publicity. For those who don't know what we're talking about

PA New Year's Raffle
In reply to Crazy Wombat: I too am surprised the next one is starting in a few days and ends March-19th. That's a lousy date, but maybe the PA Lottery has it all figured out this time. But doubt it though, since the 4th quarter raffle, which is a busy ticket buying time, didn't sell out. They'll be lucky to sell 300K tickets in 2 months during winter. May be a good time to play, but leery of glitches along with the remote possibility of PA Lottery flaking out and extending the deadline. In

Iowa man denied $100,000 lottery win because he's underage
A Des Moines, Iowa, man is facing a charge of underage gambling after he collected a $100,000 Iowa Lottery prize this summer. Iowa Lottery spokesperson Mary Neubauer says 20-year-old Jobie Boals-Watters brought the winning Mega Crossword instant scratch game ticket to lottery headquarters in Clive on July 30. At the time, he provided us with information and everything seemed to be on the up and up and the prize was claimed, Neubauer said. While it's illegal for someone under 21 to purc
