what is your thoughts on randomness is there structure even in chaos?
I do not feel true randomness exist in games of chance run by the state. If you want true randomness then the state lotteries would not use computerized drawings or balls. True randomness would be more like this: Instead of using balls they would set up a glass booth downtown so everyone could witness the event of a person inside this booth grabbing 6 one dollar bills out of the air inside the booth containing 49 dollar bills blowing around inside the booth with air. Each bill would be ass

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions buying frenzy sparks another jackpot increase
DON'T shoot the messenger.... I Just read this on another website I frequent.....I personally think it's bunk but hey we are talking about $$$$$$ so I suppose anything is possible. They have security to prevent this from happening right?? THE LOTTERY IS RIGGED You may have heard that you are more likely to be hit on the head by a meteorite than to win the lottery. This is certainly so. Assuming that the game is honest, the odds are roughly one in several hundred million. Even

$500 MILLION: Mega Millions sets all-time lottery jackpot record
All this talk about anonymity makes me upset that more states don't offer the option to remain anonymous; especially with a jackpot of this magnitude. If one person were to win this, their life would be turned upside down because their name and face will be plastered everywhere for the whole world to see. BUT after some critical thinking here's what I'd do to protect my identity and make life a little easier: 1. Delete/deactivate social networking accounts if you have any. 2. Change phone

Illinois to become first state to allow online lottery sales
A Justice Department opinion issued last year cleared the way. It said the Wire Act of 1961, which bars wagering over telecommunication systems across state or national boundaries, applies only to sports betting. At least 21 states and the District of Columbia are considering online lottery sales or other wagering such as poker, says Frank Fahrenkopf, president of the American Gaming Association, which represents commercial casinos. New York and several other states sell lottery subscripti

Cash Vs Annuity Payments
This is my first post here and I joined just to get comments on my supposition. So here goes. In my state, there is a 7% state tax on lottery winnings. If I won the top prize tonight and chose the annuity, could I not pay the 7% on the 1st year's annuity payment AND THEN move to Wyoming or Nevada or Florida where there is NO state income tax and receive the rest of the annuity payments free of state tax for the next 25 years? It would mean millions of extra dollars. Also I t

"All Lotteries Available Online"
Wouldn't it be cool, law permitting, to be able to play all your favorite online games from all states anytime? There comes to mind however, some immediate pro's and con's. CON'S: Retailers: Convenience stores, gas stations, any lottery retailer concerned for their loss of sales/foot traffic. Internet Security: Being able to assure and guarantee to the public that all transactions are safe and secure from hackers. PRO'S Players: Amazing convenience and time saver. E

Paranoid...or Prepared?
Hi Lucy, liked your post and here are my answers to your questions. 1) I would certainly tell my family and would want to make sure my daughter was set for life, parents were taken care of and also would want to give some money to my younger brother. Both of my siblings have done well with their careers (unlike myself the black sheep of the family, lol). Now this applies only if I win millions. 2) I'm a very very shy person so really would dread people knowing I won other than family and f

Paranoid...or Prepared?
If I won a large jackpot such as the current MM: 1. Yes, I'd tell my family and ask them not to tell others. Since with a jackpot that large, I'd probably be giving each of 18 relatives about $200,000 to $250,000 the first year, I don't know any other way I could explain it than to tell them the full truth. 2. All of my relatives live hundreds or thousands of miles away, so they won't see what I spend on myself. I'd hire an architect to design a new home to be built elsewhere in the state,

Paranoid...or Prepared?
Hey everyone! This is obviously my first post, but I've been lurking on and off throughout the years. I should've joined much sooner, but just like the rest of yous I'm pretty much living on a prayer and learning with this game lol. Forgive me if this has been discussed, but I figure with the latest technology and latest JP winners becoming less and less known, it makes me wonder how much of a hassle it may be to win, not earn your way into becoming a multi-millionaire...not that theres anything

Feds seize gambling site Bodog, indict founder
The sports gambling site Bodog was shut down and four Canadians indicted, including founder Calvin Ayre, for illegal gambling that generated more than $100 million in winnings, federal prosecutors announced Tuesday. The website's domain name was seized Monday and the indictments, which were returned Feb. 22, were unveiled Tuesday in Baltimore, prosecutors said. The indictments follow federal prosecutions last year of three of the biggest websites involved in online poker. More than 75 comp
