Tools You Could Use?
Changing the ballset does not change the odds of winning. It only minimizes the possibility that someone could improve the odds by taking advantage of the peculiarities of a particular ballset.

Tools You Could Use?
OpenMindedI stopped reading after I got to this paragraph - ... On the back of the play slip, it is stated that the odds of 6 of 6 from 49 is 13,983,816. These are not the odds. This is only the number of possible combinations. You need to multiply this figure times the number of ballsets (6) and machines (3). ... RegardsColin

Dumb Luck in Action
KEYSTONECHAS,I would rather share the Jackpot with people and have something than keep losing money all the time as the saying goes, The bird in your hands is worth more than the thousand in the air . Hey if I am going to beat 1:120,000,000 odds or 1:135,000,000 odds that would be a once in a lifetime opportunity and I want to share the jackpot with as few people as possible and preferably to win it myself. I think it is only human nature to want to have as much of that jackpot as you can poss

Buying more tickets = reduced odds
Colin,Did you merely derive those numbers you supplied to me from a run on your computer model? Seriously, I suggest you work them out with a pencil and paper or even a simple calculator. They really don't add up.It's interesting that you won't address the fact that payoff odds are also effectively reduced as more and more tickets are played. You really are not beating any odds.

NY Lotto inching closer to all-time high
I agree that there are several negatives, when compared with other state lotto games, but I think that 1 in 22 million odds for the top prize are not bad, especially for the largest lottery state in the USA.The odds for winning the jackpot compare very favorably to other states like California (1 in 41.4 million), Texas (1 in 47.7 million), and Florida (1 in 22.9 million). You will find others here who complain about the NY Lotto, and there are valid complaints, but when the jackpot gets this lar

Buying more tickets = reduced odds
ayenowitallPlaying random selections will usually give you a return in accordance with the advertised odds. This means as you increase the number of tickets purchased over all the draws your chances of getting the higher prizes kicks in.So playing BobP's 164 Lines over 500 Draws in a 6/49 Lotto with a random selection of 28 tickets per draw the expected return is 15%; playing 164 the expected return is 18% because a 5 is expected. For Wisconsin he beat the odds and got 3 fives up giving a return

$300.00 worth of QP's
Hi BobP,In Australia, Powerball tickets cost 50 cents a game. A Powerplay 6 is a ticket with six numbers from which the first five came (any-five-from-six) plus one specific number for the Powerball.e.g 10, 14, 17, 23, 31, 40 (from which the first five numbers must come), plus say 37 (which must be the Powerball). The odds of winning Powerball over here are just under 55 million to 1 and as this guy bought six games, the odds against him winning were around 9 million to 1. With a bit of h

Thank you BobP. One more example proving the odds calculations. Hopefully with this latest example, this odds calculation issue will be put to bed!
