Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Mega Millions is advertising bigger jackpots because they know that in the long run, this sort of thing won't happen. But again, based on your very detailed analysis which I like, the jackpot has been won once, when statistically it was not to be won. Then it happened again. What happens once, can happen twice, when it happens twice, heaven knows it can happen three times and on and on. I think every time someone wins before it gets to 1 Billion the guys at MM get so mad The fo

Inflation affects the cost of operating the game, Inflation also affects state budgets that are partially funded by lotteries. Inflation itself isn't a direct reason for the price increase. Decreasing lottery revenue and efforts to prop it up are the reason, so inflation is an indirect cause. Of course the flip side of that coin is that most players do account for the price/risk of a bet to some degree. Here's the revenue for the first 5 drawings of the last 3 MM runs (current run on le

They had to have cheated. Don't be ridiculous. It's so easy to win there's no reason to cheat even if you could. One complaint would justify being upset with the price increase, a constant complaint is overkill. You know that there are two of you that are making your complaint over and over, right? I could understand someone like Elon Musk calling $10 million measly I don't imagine anyone here actually thinks any of the advertised jackpots are chump change, but so far I do

Encounters in the wild
David Attenborough Impression In late afternoon at this mid-latitude location in North America, and it's just beginning to get dark in mid-November . There are perhaps 100 individuals gathered here. No doubt some would like to find a mate, but all are here because of the varied and abundant supply of food. Near the periphery are two older males. While one is a very handsome example of his species the other looks quite average, but his behavior is about to reveal that there's something very

Here are some possibilities about what's coming. It takes 201 million tickets to reach a 50% chance of getting a winner. We obviously can't get a winner in any of the previous drawings, so from this point there's a 50% chance that the cash value will reach about $668 million. At the current interest rate that would be an advertised annuity of $1.44 billion. On average it takes 292.47 million tickets to produce each winner, so once the cash value has reached $391.7 million (tonight's valu

Help Me Understand This 😭
From 2/22 when the new MFL game launched, Both the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots have been won twice - each. We have also had numerous 2nd prize winners for both of the above games. We are yet to have a jackpot or even a 2nd prize winner with MFL. On 4/22 it will be two months since the game launched. Does it mean we have fewer people playing MFL in the 31 states where it's available? The odds of winning are way lower than for both PB and MM, but yet they keep on producing

It looks as if the $5.00 MM ticket is doing poorly.
Sales are lower. But they are making more money. Do to the price increase. Just one data point, but the first 3 drawings for 400+ had sales of $105 million compared to $117 million for the first 3 drawings for 400 the last time it got there before the price increase. That's just hair under 90%. Looking at PB sales for 3 drawings at 400+ at roughly the same times the more recent run had sales of 88% of the previous sales. Again, that's a limited set of data but it looks like lower MM sal

Does Lottery Software work?
I like the argument from hypersoniq that the lottery is memoryless. It does not remember the past draws. This is especially true of ball draws, not sure about computer generated draws. The truth is if there was a system that worked, we would have jackpot winners almost every drawing or every other draw, but we don't, more so for the bigger jackpots, PB, MM and other larger State games like those in Texas and California. I mostly play QPs, but once in a while I try to do my own ab

I'm not sure what numbers from the Texas spreadsheets you used in your previous post to determine the chance of a roll but what do you think are the chances we see another 2 billion jackpot? There's a worksheet for every drawing, and you'll find a link to it on the page that shows the current advertised jackpot. Somewhere around noon on the day of the drawing (or Friday for Saturday's PB jackpot) they add the next jackpot if it rolls. https://www.texaslottery.com/export/sites/lottery/Gam

Yet again, another store visit, this time back in MN. Had to stop there for gas while in Owatonna MN for work; picked up a PB for Saturday. Asked two Clerks how MM sales have been going. To My Unsurprise, sales are down, way down according to them. One said, Ever since they jacked it up to $5.00. Yep, sales down equates to revenue down. Seems they were wrong about the Faster Growing Jackpots.
