is anyone going to bother with Mega Millions tonight? Even without PB being a bit more than 3 times as big MM is still well shy of my entry point, given the price and odds. I'm thinking some time in October is when I'll get in the game, assuming it's still rolling (and it probably will be). The headline screams that he's missing the clue that even if PB sales were up (they're not) due to MM's price increase it's still probability that results in billion jackpots. The average PB jackpot should have a cash value of about $195 million

They didn't come up short. They just didn't get to skim the full 50% they normally would have. Total sales for the run were a hair over $117 million. Of the $58.5 million that goes to prizes just over 44.7% is for lower tier prizes, so they'd need about $26.2 million for the smaller prizes. Add in the cash value of $41.9 million and the total prize payout is about $68.1 million. That leaves them $48.9 million instead of the $58.5 million target. MM increased $15M, up to $346M. PB is $172M. CDanaT before you tell us the MM is 'Measly' compare the MM and PB jackpots and consider taking a remedial math course. Good Luck in whatever you do play.

Lottery revenue has been generally going downhill for years and the lotteries have been trying to stop the decrease or at least slow it down. One of the first huge jackpots was when MM reached $656 million in March 2012 on the 18th drawing. It reached 290 on the 16th drawing and then increased 73 363 and 293 656. Here is further evidence Powerball is still winning the race. ... After 5 Mega Millions draws .. PB has fairly consistently grown faster than MM, including under the $2 per ticket format, because of the 3rd weekly drawing, with short variations when MM has a really big jackpot. The consensus seems to be that Sunday drawing are unlikely, so MM has to work with just the 2 drawings per week. The differences you're comparing are advertised jackpots of 358 vs 20 and 474 vs 145. Powerball to Mega millions Catch me if you can There is a clean 100M difference on the two advertised jackpots, lets see what MM is made of, if it can catch up to PB if no one wins PB in the race. For MM to be won at the 300M mark, not sure about the bigger jackpots advertising - maybe it's too early. Onward we go.

I don't want the PB or MM jackpots so I stick to my beloved Cash 5 and state lotto dividing an equal amount into both. I think you should go a little deeper than 3 PB plays a week. That matrix though is discouraging to do more than double your play there. Most cash 5 games are daily now so on the days there is no PB you want to have something going.
