powerball strategies
If your looking at odds then the best way to lower it for the least amount of dollars is probably playing all the powerballs. I think you looking at something like 1 in a little less than 3 million to match the remaining 5 white balls. Cheap considering how many numbers you eliminate. You get some money back too for matching the Powerball. FWIW if I was going to wager that much it would be off some powerball scheme to lower the odds. Good luck.

Question for you math pros...
Chet, That is how Maryland explains it for the 6/49. It has the odds per game board as 1 in 13,983,816, but since there is 2 game boards per $1 wager; the odds get reduced to 1 in 6,991,908. Yet there are still the 13 million plus distinct combo's that I miss by every week. It seems to be a game of semantics.

Question for you math pros...
Way I see it, Rick, not only are the odds not lowered in your favor in any capacity but they have increased. I say this because you are playing the stacked odds of any number of players plus whatever the state has setup! Something like an domino effect.Teufellj

Question for you math pros...
in reality, buying 2 tickets does not magically eliminate 1/2 of all possible results...odds are not a fraction meant to be reduced. (but the states would LOVE for you to believe so). Million to one odds with 2 tickets mean you have 2 possibilities out of the 1,000,000 that could come up... there are still 999,998 left uncovered.

lotto trix formula
It should be noted that in theory having 9 lines that contain all 49 numbers at least once improves your odds also because odds of 5/48 is 1:1,715,304, an 800% improvement.

General question
The best game to win at is of course, Mega Millions or Powerball. Mega Millions seems to be easier to win, even though it has worse odds. All the states have similar odds for similar games. It doesn't really matter which state.

There is one way to reduce the odds based on historical trends. But, the odds are still high and way against the player. We can discuss, if you want.

lottery
As far as I know, that has only been tried once and that was some years back in the Virgina lottery when the cash value was greater than the odds of winning. Since then a lot of states have create guide lines which makes it impossible for any group to control enough machines long enough to play all the possible combinations. There was a group in Canada that claimed 1:3 odds of winning the jackpot a 649 games with a 300,000 combinations, but I think they might have been running a scam to get lo
