Was that the official concession speech from Mega Millions?
I misspoke too.
ODDS SCMOODS. Odds is a only a guide.
I meant to say ODDS SCHMODDS.
SCMOODS is not a real word.

Why Only Lotteries rather than Drawings?
Good point RJOh...Lets say its a weekly raffle and the prize amount and odds are based on how ever many raffle tickets are sold within that week so odds prize amount will vary. You are paying a premium for the odds while earning a much better chance at a large jackpot (not close to multi-state lotteries obviously).
Thanks for responding RJOh,

"Beating the House!"
BigDMike,
You can't tell me that there isn't a bet or bets, in Vegas that'll give you a high chance of winning.
Sure, there are a few, but peole betting them have run right into buzz saws, too. Like the lotteries, the house is always a step or two ahead of the players.
The only bet in a casino that pays true odds is taking or laying odds on Pass Line, Come, or Don't Pass, and Don't come bets. But you have to have a flat bet in order to take or lay odds, and that's where the house has

$257 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot expands
That's what I did. I thought about playing, remembered the odds and put that money into the Salvation Army pot instead. If no one has won it by Xmas week, I'll start playing then. Right now those dollars are of much more benefit to SA.
And this may sound weird and/or greedy, but if they'd kept the odds as it was, I probably would have split the money...giving some to SA and buying a few tickets. With the odds being so ridiculous, I won't spend a dime on a ticket until the JP get much higher

$257 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot expands
Does anyone know, are the odds for MM the worst for any major lottery game out there? LOL. Not whining. Just curious. If any other lottery game in existence has similar odds to MM and what the average JP wins have been. Once every 6 months? Once per year? For instance, almost all PB JP wins occur within a 2 month period. Occasionally it goes to 3 months or so but that's a rarity. Just wondering what we should expect to see for the MM JP.
Would be great to see a Christmas win for this. But a

Is Mega Millions paying ?? Or are the odds just too high?
There have been NO JACKPOT winners yet. I count 12 2nd place wins and 1 BONUS 2nd place win since the change of the game. While Powerball has had multiple jackpot winners, and 2 times as many 2nd place wins in the same amount of time.
So are the ODDS just too high? I kinda think they may be, I am wondering if we WILL see a jackpot winner? Or if it will just grow grow with no winner...

"Beating the House!"
The problem is when it comes to the lottery, even if someone was to improve their odds favorably by say 5% (that in itself would be hard to do), the odds are so bad to start with, that the 5% would not make much of a difference overall in coming out ahead over time.
Now, if you could take that same 5% improvement to a casino to some of the better odds games you would be much better off.
As I said before, I have never seen a system (or call it formula or strategy), provide consistent

NY Sweet Millions
I dont buy five separate tickets with the same set of numbers, but I do play the same line twice on one ticket. I'm not as nice of a sibling as you appear to be! (And I've only got two brothers!)
My motivation is a little different. The odds to win a million dollars playing Sweet Million are 3.8 million to 1. The odds to win a million playing PowerBall are 5 million to 1. You could win 2 million by buying the PowerPlay option in PB, which would cost you a total of 3 bucks, but why pay 3 bucks

New Mega Millions Game
Back in the day, the majority of LP posters understood why changes were made to some of the games and how to calculate simple odds. Now we have members who can't grasp the concept of creating a $1 million secondary prize and retaining the $1 ticket price. We can't buy one PB ticket for a $1 so if someone wants to compare odds it must be a comparison of two MM tickets to one PB ticket.
no one, including Mr. Grief is putting a gun to anyone's head to play MM or PB.
Maybe the lotteries rea

Tickets for updated Mega Millions game on sale Saturday
OK...
Match 4 numbers + the Mega Ball: $5,000 (odds are 1 in 739,688) Match 4 numbers: $500 (odds are 1 in 52,835) Match 3 numbers + the Mega Ball: $50 (odds are 1 in 10,720)
Lower prize winners still getting robbed. If I wanted $5,000, I'd play the 4-ball. Much easier to win. If I wanted $500, I'd play the 3-ball. Much easier to win.
