Do some number combinations have better odds?
The whole point of the exercise was to see if strategy A would yield more jackpots than strategy B.
I won't speak for BobP, but I believe his point was to show the overall effect by using all 48 numbers on 8 lines. It could be used as a betting strategy trying to win a jackpot, but it's a terrible strategy trying to get multiple secondary prize wins because two of the lines by default will never match a number.
Since people have a hangup about it being unrealistic for individual players

Do some number combinations have better odds?
What about Thrifty's favorite people in the whole wide world, the three asset managers from Connecticut who won $254 million on a single quick pick?
Were they playing with the best odds ever, far BETTER than you could ever dream of acheiving? Did they simply beat the odds , which appears to be your latest mantra? If so, why on earth should we listen to some egotistical jerk prattle on about spending over $98,000 per drawing to beat the odds when it can be done with a single quick pick? Or di

Anyone up for a SP Vs QP MM challenge?
The good thing with self picks is having more and more opportunities available as the number of lines increase. I have already proven that its possible to hit 5+1 with as little as 5000 lines.
Anything less is almost the same odds as QPs but I would be willing to TRY for better odds with as little as 30 lines using the 2 if 2 of 25 LP wheel.
Its not the 28 numbers that I think are a required minimum for better odds, but I would still TRY.

NY Sweet Millions
NY Sweet Million jackpot pays x3 that of Take5 for same odds. However, 2nd 3rd place payouts are much lower, thus making Take5 better for odds than SM.
Do the math: 3838380 / 575757 = 6.66
6.66 x $50k = $333k; which is 1/3 of $1m.
However, if you get only $300 on Take5's 2nd place, you win x3.4 more than SM's $500. Thus, odds of winning big $ on lower prizes are better with Take5.

NC lottery bill won't ban welfare recipient sales
Stam said the bill will still seek to remove the word education from the North Carolina Education Lottery because proceeds account for a small percentage of state education funding. He also wants the lottery to reveal more fully the long odds of a winning a big prize.
Lol, I think most people get that 1:175,000,000+ odds of winning a JP are way LONG.
You would have better odds of getting mauled by a polar bear and a regular bear both in the same day.

Fallacies, and two REAL ways of improving your chances
It's not that I can't understand that. You're either not reading my post or not understanding it.
Do you know what odds mean? Saying that strategy A has better odds than strategy B means two things:
1) You can buy less lines and obtain the same odds as strategy B
2) With the same number of lines, strategy A will have better odds than strategy B.
These two are essentially the same thing. The point here, is that this implies that to obtain a 1:1 odd, i.e 100% chance i.e

Winning Lottery is so freaking hard
Ya Jag it is tough, especially if you're playing PB or MM. Unless you have a hefty lotto budget, or are part of a lotto club you're gonna have many such frustrations. I usually avoid those games until the JP exceeds a quarter billion and then I'll get caught up in all the hype. Have you played any of the smaller state or regional games? They offer you much better odds to at least win something, which then gives you more confidence to keep playing.
For what it's worth my strategy is pretty sim

Do some number combinations have better odds?
Thank you Stack for trying to stay on topic in spite of all the disruptive posts of boney and jim.
It occurs to me that the 5 times BETTER ODDS I achieved in the 39 draw trial DID NOT include hitting the bonus number on one of those 5 of 5's which adds the 1 in 46 element to those odds........
What are the odds? lol.

Do some number combinations have better odds?
Odds against are calculated by a ratio of losing chances to winning chances. Roulette has 38 numbers so by betting on five numbers, you reduce the losing changes by 5; 38 - 5 = 33. Since there is only one winning number, the odds against are 33 to 1.
The odds are actually 33:5, because you have 5 winning numbers.
You really think that 5 numbers on a roulette wheel is a 33 to 1 chance? LMAO. Dude it's 33:5, you are SO far off.....

Newbie has some questions.
Welcome Fishy, as a few other members said Hot Lotto is a top multi state game after PB and MM. I like it cause it's only played in small population states and JP winning odds are 1 in 10.9M. It also uses a random number generator to draw the winning numbers unlike the other big multi-states that use the mechanical drum and ball technique. I've personally had better success in identifying patterns and trends with the RNG game and have won the lower tier prizes more frequently than the average od
