How do you feel about buying a whole roll of tickets?
My advice DON'T DO IT!!! Think outside of the box... Say you buy up all tickets available... In the end after buying them all you will still be short. Unless there is a $300 or more winner in the pack you will likely lose money. You may look at the odds of a particularly high winner in a pack and that will work like buying an individual ticket. For example... When you buy a $10 ticket... You have odds of 1:3... You buy a loser. Something every scratcher buyer has done... Well, say the odds of wi

Does jackpot amount affect your spending habits.
Normally I just buy one PowerBall ticket with PowerPlay. This gives fate (Lady Luck, G-d, whatever motivating force you prefer to refer to) a chance to smile on me in a big way, and doesn't make me spend too much on the game, given the ridiculous odds for the jackpot. Given those odds, I tend to think of playing PowerBall as playing for the 2nd and 3rd prizes (the $1,000,000 or the $20-50,000 prizes). They don't change value over time, so I don't usually vary my playing style much. Most of my

Instant tickets - "Approximate overall odds of winning"
The odds listed are for 2 separate things: The odds of winning any prize ($2,$3,$5,$10,$20,$40,$100) are 1 in 4.52 The odds of winning a $2 (or breakeven) prize is 1 in 7.50

Predicting number patterns?
Any pool of numbers short of all the possible numbers is unlikely to have all the winning numbers 100% of the time. Its size and the odds of it having all the winning numbers would be important to a lottery player decision to try it. As I said earlier I would like a way or formula that defines a pool of ~20 numbers that covered all the winning numbers 50% (1:2) of the time, a 12 numbers pool that covered all the winning numbers 10% of the time would be even better. In MegaMillions, we know th

How much do the odds increase by buying more tickets?
Is there a way to calculate at which point it's no longer worth buying more tickets? What we do in the office is that when MA Megabucks (pick 6 of 42, jackpot odds 1 in 5,245,786) gets high, we pool our money for some tickets. So say we managed to get together $100 for a draw, and some more people want to join and we can possibly get up to $150, I never could figure out if the extra $50 would be worth putting in for that draw, or we should hold off and use the $50 for the next draw (assuming no

Joint Mega Million / Powerball game
If Mega Million and Powerball teamed up and offered a $10 60/40 Raffle with the states keeping 40% of the pot and 60% of the pot going to ONE winning ticket once a year would you play it ? If they sold 175,000,000 tickets in one year you would have a chance at a ~$1,000,000,000 (1 billion dollar) CASH jackpot once a year and the odds would be comparable to both games. The 40 or so states in both games would have to sell about 84,000 tickets per week to get it up to a billion but if it w

N.J. Lottery to add Powerball?
First of all, the only lottery I would and have paid $2 or even $3 for a ticket was when Florida added that booster feature to the jackpot (10 million extra for $2; 15 million extra for $3 ticket...oops I forgot that I made a mistake and bought a Canada lotto ticket that also cost $3.27 - punk ass clerk hit me up for the extra few cents when the Canadian buck was trading higher than the USD which is why I won't spend another red cent in Canada for awhile as they wouldn't do that (adjust for the

Unemployed: Play the lottery or not?
Arrrrgh! Again they do the same thing - give the odds of winning the jackpot vs. flesh-eating bacteria etc. based on buying ONE ticket ever, and based on pure chance. Not factoring that most players buy 5 or more and play regularly. I've beaten odds of 1/2 million to 1 and 13,000 to 1 but the odds were only on that day on one particular line on the ticket. I would recommend for someone unemployed who wants to play but shouldn't, offer numbers to other people (friends/relatives) in return they

The Cash 25 Game - can anyone recommend a system?
Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and I'm looking for tips to increase my odds on a unique WV lottery game called the Cash 25. It's a jackpot of only $25,000, but that is alot of money and the odds are better in winning that game than the Powerball. If you match 6 numbers from 1-25, you win the jackpot. The odds are better because you're only working with 25 numbers. Can anyone recommend a good system that would work for this game? Any input would be appreciated.

Lottery Pool/Club
That is one of the biggest falacies promoted by people who do not like group play. Or maybe, people who are disappointed when they see most large jackpots are won by groups. I have joined some groups for an upcoming 649 draw. My odds of hitting the jackpot is close to 1 in 15,000. Those are great odds. And my share of the jackpot is at least $1 million after taxes. So the difference in odds is far from negligible.
