Maddogs Powerball Challenge 10/28
Actually, I thought we were talking about backing up a winning jackpot combination with a repeat.
In a 6/49 game, the odds of catching 5of6 are something like 1 in 55,000. If you had a system that would hit 5of6 five pecent of the time using fifty combinations per draw, that sounds like you drastically reduced the odds of catching a 5of6 hit to 1 in 1000. (That would be a 5of6 hit every twenty draws or ten weeks if drawn twice weekly.) Including the lower tier secondary prizes along with the

PA Cash 5 - Matrix Too Small?
PA's Cash 5 is a pretty decent game. The jackpots usually don't get to high...the average I believe it gets won every other day. Mostly it goes at $100,000 or $200,000. I believe if it fine the way it is.
Now Florida's Fantasy 5 game I believe needs to change. That state must sell lots of tickets for their pick 5 game. I mean the jackpot gets hit almost everyday and it usually goes for about $200,000. That means they sell more than 600,000 tickets a night for that game with odds of 1 in

Second $1M lottery win for deli worker defies all odds
Actually this doesn't defy all the odds. These are two (2) totally different and mutually exclusive events (draws) years apart. The o9dds in this game are in no way related to the odds in the last game she won.
It is as if she never won before or that she is a different person.
In such cases I have to believe in plain old luck.
The odds have not been defied. They still rule. Just as all the people who did not win in either game in which Valerie won.

What is the probability?
You haven't given us enough information to figure out the probability. How many numbers had never been drawn? Just those 5, 10 numbers, 40 numbers? It's likely to be somewhere in the general neighborhood of the odds for 5 triples in a row, which would be 1 in 10,000,000,000. Of course with that many zeros the neighborhood is fairly large. What I can tell you is that the odds of those 5 numbers being drawn consecutively, is exactly the same as the odds that the previous 5 numbers would have b

Mega Millions hit again!
Being smart has nothing to do with it. Powerball had added a much larger population base to it's players yet didn't change the odds. They had a long string of low jackpots then corrected the problem by changing the odds. Megamillions added the largest state and miscalculated the needed odds.
It also doesn't help that several of the Mega states continue to grow in population. I don't think they will fix it soon however due to the way Mega handles it's business. I'd say maybe they will do some

The best play is .....
10 numbers in 1 state might perhaps be the lower odds of winning and again maybe not, it all depends on how good your system is.
1 number in all the states, as there are many more than 10 states that have daily games, like 30 or more, the odds of winning even with just 1 number should be much higher, but again, it all depends on your prediction system.
If you play quick picks, then 1 number for all states might be better, as your odds of winning in this way might be or should be much highe

The Truth Behind the Numbers
Either you win or lose, that's 50/50.
Only kidding, but buying two tickets does cut the ODDS in half, not to be confused with the fact you are still playing only two tickets out of millions.
Most states that sell two tickets for a dollar cut the odds in half per dollar, they might know what they are doing, though in Canada they don't cut the odds in half, maybe it's a cultural thing like yogurt. BobP

The Truth Behind the Numbers
I never did understand where some people got the thinking from that says that if you buy multiple tickets in a drawing that has astronomical odds like the jackpot games do, that somehow this cuts their odds.
Each line/combination/ticket that you play has the exact same odds of being drawn. Each one stands alone when the draw comes. I've bought multiple tickets at times in the past and got zilch. Then there were times that I bought one little Quickpick on a 6/36 game and a 5/31 game and go

Mega Millions hit again!
Mostly this is just luck of the draw.
Megamillions has produced two jackpots of over $200M annuity this year, the last in April.
One could triple the odds against winning and still have every jackpot won. It's luck.
I used to play lotteries on every draw. Now I only play them when the jackpot is large, and I use the expectation value. I'm not sure that longer odds is really the answer. I suspect that if they made the odds against winning the lottery infinite, no one would play.
