Working Scratch of tactics thread
You're right of course, $50 is steep. You shouldn't spend more than you can afford to lose. But they compensate on the $5o one. The odds of winning a big prize are great, and with about 1 in 3 paying off, that's good odds you'd get the fifty back or better. If you don't, well this is gambling. About 1 in three times you'd feel a small relief you didn't lose the money, slightly more often you'd be disappointed, and occaisionally you might be very pleased.

how well would this work for pick-6?
If you are playing a 6/49 game wheeling 20 numbers the odds of having all 6 winning numbers among the 20 is 1 in 360.
If you go to http://www.lotto-logix.com/wheellinks.html there is a lottery odds calculator.
Drawn numbers: In this case 20 we're fooling the calculator to see the wheel as the amount of numbers drawn.
Game size: 49, enter something different if your game is a different size.
Matching: 6 numbers, what we're after but interesting to see chance of matching a

Any NJ Scratcher's?
I'm an NJ scratcher. I can't say if NJ is better or worse than other states, because the only other state I play in is NY. In NY, the prizes are higher for tickets $5 and up, e.g the typical top prize for a $5 ticket is $1 million, and in NJ it's $150k. However, in NY, you get paid over 20 years; in NJ, it's all at once (except for the Win For Life games).
I look at the NJ lottery web site and read the details on the various scratchers. You can learn a lot this way and make more informed deci

Stop staying, 'Lower the odds'. It's the JACKPOT that matters!
Nobody needs it, but it's a question of what you could do with it. That $105 million they advertise is about (for me) $38 million after taxes. Right now, putting that in a safe investment might result in an annual after tax income of only $660,000. I've got no use for extravagance, and even indulging in a goodly amount of travel I can't imagine actually spending more than 250 to 300k, but there are plenty of other things I'd like to be able to do.
It wouldn't take an hour to think of charitab

what are the odds
I understand it involves a whole new drawing, but I still think the odds can be better by playing for 28 draws. It is expensive, though.
I think the way I was thinking is better described if we turn the system around and ask
What are the odds of having the lottery pick a number in my set of ten if I give them 28 tries?
So, even if it is a whole new drawing, as long as I keep my 10 numbers the same throughout their 28 tries, the odds of having an exact match should still be about 1

Numbers question
The odds in Floroda Fantasy Five, are about 1 in 376,000. The game is 1-36. What I'd like to know is, if I eliminate the first two numbers in the selection of five total, what would the new odds be?
For example. You have to pick 5 numbers correct to win. What if the game was only 3 numbers to win, but still had 1-36. So let's say, I would pick 3-8-30. What would the odds of winning be now?
I ask this because I'm testing a strategy that costs only 25 bucks to cover the first 2 numbers and I

Why I think quick picks suck
You've chosen the right answer, but you're certainly giving me plenty of evidence that you don't actually understand the signifigance of it. I won't argue with the basic premise that QPs are flawed. Anecdotal evidence suggests that they aren't completely random selections made from all of the available numbers. I don't care one way or the other, and won't argue that point.
The relevant question is whether or not that affects their chances of winning. Previously you said that you believe that

What are the odds Pick 3 and 4 ? anybody - math wizards
Come on the odds increase when you add 4 predraws and more sets of balls and machines with rotation .
My picks hit in a predraw not in the 5th draw.
The odds are still 1000 to 1 and 10000 to 1 but they are manipulated with a purpose to make you lose not to see
if the machines are working properly. They increase the odds of prediction! I'm not just talking about the regular odds.
I know you don't have to play or lose money.
Thanks anyway
