The Frenzy has far better odds of winning the $500. 1 in 686 versus 1 in 480 for the $20 ticket, and obviously, the $20 ticket is four times as much. You multiply 480 by 4--1,920--and 1 in 1,920 would be the odds of that prize on a $5 ticket. Four tickets of the Frenzy would equal roughly a 1 in 171 chance to win the prize, were you to spend $20. In any event, both tickets blow chunks.

How does checking how many top prizes are left give you an edge in the odds department? Well for one thing, once you know all the top prizes are gone you know your odds of winning one is zero regardless of the number of tickets left for sale.
