Montana Lottery aims to prohibit bulk purchases after group takes gamble on $1.6 million jackpot
Smaller lottery unexpectedly targeted by purchasing group prompts security discussions
Plans partially foiled by another winner
By Kate Northrop
The Montana Lottery is the latest state to propose rules that would prohibit bulk ticket purchases after an unknown entity bought hundreds of thousands of tickets to scoop a $1.6 million Montana Cash jackpot in May.
One by one, state lotteries across the nation have been taking proactive steps to curb the possibility of organized groups

Secrets of a lottery lawyer-Kurt Panouses interview
Actually having two games and letting the players pick may be worse right now.
As happens so often, I think this is another case of players somehow failing to understand that the point of a lottery is to raise revenue for the entity that runs the lottery.
Maybe MUSL could collect a modest fee from the UK for licensing the Powerball name, but the real money is from selling tickets. Their obvious goal is to gain players so that jackpots will grow more rapidly, because sales are better whe

Powerball reaches $643 million: highest lottery jackpot of 2025
The annual increases in the annuity payment makes the proportion of lump sum to annuity smaller.
Right, but you're reversing the cause and the effect. The graduated payments inflate the annuity, making it bigger than it would be with fixed payments. The flip side to that is that with fixed payments the proportion of annuity to lump sum is smaller. Every dollar in the prize pool (the cause) buys less annuity value (the effect).
Of course, the lump sum is the real number since it's based

The Florida Millionaire Raffle is back!
The Lottery hasn't updated the weekly Raffle sales data yet, but I bought a ticket this morning around 11:00, a week after the lottery's last update.
My ticket was 2775xx, and the lottery's last reported was 263272. 2775xx minus 263272 equals 14228. 14228 divided by 7 equals an average of 2032 tickets drawn per day this past week.
We're 89 days into the Raffle, so 2775xx divided by 89 equals 3118. 3118 times 122 (number of days in the Raffle) equals a potential total sales figure of 38

US Powerball multi-state lottery game expanding to the UK
Right? I was thinking of this. Americans cannot participate any other foreign countries lottery games unless they are visiting the country . Will we be able to play the UK's National lottery ? Or Canada's Lotto Max? Or Australia's Powerball ? No. We can't even nationally play a lottery game through an app like they can with the Euromillions.
It seems the Powerball keeps chasing growth despite a of ticket sales. Instead of asking why ticket sales are declining they think price increase or mo

Indiana legislature rejects bill for online lottery ticket sales
Another consecutive year of little to no interest for a digital lottery platform
By Kate Northrop
A bill to allow online lottery sales in Indiana died before it even had the chance to make it to the House floor for consideration, snuffing out hopes for a digital platform yet again.
Indiana lawmakers are not interested in discussing an online lottery, with the most recent proposal harboring barely any support before it was removed from the docket for consideration.

$1.7 BILLION: Will Powerball create a Christmas billionaire?
I can't imagine that the actual increase for Wednesday won't be something bigger than the increase for Monday, and simply matching it would result in a final total of 1.745B. Last week sales for Wednesday were about 37% higher than sales for Monday jackpot, and the same 37% increase this time around would add about 73 million, so 1.815ish seems like a fairly safe bet.
Now that they had about that same increase I'm even more surprised that we never saw a bump yesterday. I think they really m

$1.7 BILLION: Will Powerball create a Christmas billionaire?
PB will claim they set a new record if the annuity is more than the current $2.04 billion record, but to beat the $997.6 million cash value of that jackpot the annuity needs to be 2.17B, assuming the interest rate doesn't change. The PB worksheet posted on Monday afternoon suggests that a rollover on Wednesday will give us a Saturday jackpot of about $2.11 billion, but I'm not sure the people behind that estimate really have a better idea than anyone else. They came up over $60 million short on

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
The Mega Millions jackpot was won at $90 million and has reset to $50 million. The jackpot was supported by sales by about $69 million. The run that just ended was experiencing an increase in sales most likely due to the recent $983 million jackpot. The next run will probably have decreased sales which may result in the jackpot reaching at least $150 million before it experiencing a jackpot increase of more than the minimum $10 million.
It is funny how probabilities are sometimes perceived.

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
The number of days between the draw is almost irrelevant. Most sales occur the day of the draw.
And sales on a Friday are (almost) always larger than on the Tuesday,
For last Friday they had a estimated guess of +$40M. +$50M would imply a +25% of sales v. the prior Friday.
I believe it is a reasonable guess .... Could be larger. Don't think it could be lower ..... We'll see.
