Lottery's biggest loser: Albany man passed on office pool that won $319M jackpot
He's an IT guy, right? I am sure intelligent people like IT folks know how to do cost-benefit analysis. Let's see here....we have a $312M (later increased to $319M) jackpot; more people are playing so it is likely to get hit that drawing; the cost (in his case) would have been $2; the benefit would have been a split of $319M(annuitized)/$200M(cash value). WOW!!! I think I would wager $2 any day even with the astronomical odds of winning...because now he knows how it feels to not benefit from suc

What is a lottery system? What distinguishes a lottery system from guesses, dreams and quick picks?
Visiondude, people enjoy coming up with a strategy to win a game. We do it because it's fun and it's a challenge. Todd created the Lottery Systems forum for a reason. People aren't going to get caught up in trying to prove to others their system works. The odds of winning the Hoosier Lotto jackpot are 1 in 12,271,512 and I'm certainly not going to be concerned with proving to someone on the internet who I've never met before that my system can defy those odds more than once. We system players ha

NY Scratch-off Discussion
It was #39 for the $10 3,000,000 richer ticket unforunately...
honestly, given my experience buying that roll last night I'd give the $5 sweet million game a chance, but either roll makes sense. Plus I believe you said you're from NYC, and we all know how many times jackpots are won there, so I think buying either roll isn't a bad idea. Its just the odds of the sweet million game that caught my eye, I've never seen a $5 ticket with just 4.3 odds. Hope that helped a little..

$304,000,000 Mega Millions has just rolled over to...
It did not cover all the numbers.
The odds are about 1 in 176,000,000. Suppose that exactly half of 176 million tickets, 88,000,000 million are sold, and you are buying the next ticket with no information about which combinations are covered. Suppose too that through a miracle (which never occurs by the way) no combination is covered twice. Then the odds of buying a ticket that is not covered are one in two.
On a deeper level, this fact is covered by what is known as a Poisson distribution

What Are You Doing Different For The Big Mega-Millions Jackpot?
You're a smart one. The odds are rediculous. The ocean analogy was perfect.
I have a friend who thinks he's gonna win the Powerball. I even gave him the 65 bags of sand example but he simply doesn't get it. He can't beat the p-3 on a regular basis, and it's only 1,000 to 1. the funny part is, (and I always tease him on this) he always tells me that he's done with the p-3 and will only play the p-4 cause the p-3 just ain't worth the bother anymore. of course he starts playing it a week later..
