Quick Pick/Machine Pick
In most pick-5 games matching 2 out of 5 wins a prize even if it's a free ticket. The overall odds of winning any prize is around 1 in 10 so lots of people win prizes using QPs.
The overall odds of winning any prize is higher in Powerball (1 in 36) and Mega Millions (1 in 40) and there is statistic going around that says 80% of tickets sold are QPs. Assuming that is true, there were 2.2 million Quick Picks in last Fridays Mega Millions drawing that won a prize.

Whats your prize ratio with a 3 hit in 16 Numbers for 649 lottery
There is a total of 8008 combinations using 16 numbers and 286 have 3 matching numbers; 286/8008=3.57% and gives you odds of 1 in 28.

Which gives me a better chance of winning a lottery?
The majority of this discussion has been about reducing the odds of $175 million to 1 and not about reducing the odds of winning more than they spent.
I assumed a better chance of winning meant a better chance of hitting the jackpot buying 100 QPs in 1 drawing or 50 QPs in 2 drawings. If winning means 2 bucks, we can guarantee that by playing all the mega balls for $46. If winning means more than they spend, they would have to match at least 4 + 0 or 3 + 1.

Which gives me a better chance of winning a lottery?
Let's change the subject for a minute, since this has been debated before, and the 2 sides will never agree. I'm sure everyone has heard of the show Deal or No Deal. It's a stupid show, and I'm surprised it's still on the air, but I've watched it anyway. Now it's the same ol', same ol' and it's totally boring. It's all luck..not even like Wheel of Fortune, since at least you have to know how to spell on that game! LOL Anyway, for those of you who have never seen it, there are 26 beautiful models

Can One Really Predict Numbers ...
Here's my 2cents:
No. I don't believe in a fool proof system.
The best odds you can get out of a pick 3 game are:
FRONT PAIR / BACK PAIR combo
Odds 1:100
play up to 40 numbers @ $1 ea = $40 spent ($50 won) PROFIT = $10
Odds 1: 2.5
Now..this is crazy because you couldn't double up (or martingale) the next night and expect to make a profit.
BUT......
I play FRONT PAIR / BACK PAIR (avaible to certain states)
25 numbers * $1 = $25 ($50 prize) NET PROFIT = $25
Odds 1:

Tennessee is at it again!
If you keep up with my posts here on the scratch board... You will remember I really bashed Tennessee's first $20 instant ticket, Silver Bells... Well, as I reported no one claimed a top prize before they took it off the shelves 3 days before Christmas. (According to my local retailer). Well hello Sizzling Cash. A new $20 ticket that is exactly silver bells all over again. If you can point out a difference let me know. Cumby top prize of only $300,000, odds of 1:3.26. Tennessee, What are you thi

Weird Lottery
THE above post clearly shows a wise strategy for playing lottery...when the odds are high playing $1-$5 is prefeerred otherwise you will lose money...

Can you SMELL that PA STENCH?
100% legal fraud! <<< I DISAGREE with whoever said that ..no one is forcing you to play..you want to hold out and boycott..thats fine..the lottery is just a game of chance where players VOLUNTARILY participate against very big odds in order to win money...the odds are big with 5/39 and they are bigger with 5/43 ..so what.. you still need luck to win jackpot..so the basics have not changed (getting lucky vs getting lucky a bit more)...YOU dont have a right to have a lottery thats fits yo

Pair arrested for stealing lottery tickets for 3 years
It changed the odds for other players exactly the same as if the store had sold the tickets instead of having them stolen.

Pair arrested for stealing lottery tickets for 3 years
Hmmm, sounds like they stole a huge chunk of tickets, wonder how this changed the actual game odds for all the honest players on those games.
