A dollar and a dream true for PB and MM?
I have seen people buy thousands of tickets thinking they had a lock, guess what? No jackpot,
Anyone who thinks that having 1000 out of 145 or 176 million combinations gives them a lock on winning the jackpot is a moron, but that doesn't mean that the math doesn't work the way Guru has explained it.
You post about sets is clueless about how the odds really work, but the basic idea of sets can be used to offer a clue to those who are smart enough. Lets imagine a game with odds of 1 in

A dollar and a dream true for PB and MM?
I don't claim to be a mathmatician, but if every time you buy another ticket the odds are cut in half, that would mean I'd be guaranteed a win if I keep buying enough tickets. If you buy $5 worth of tickets then you have 5 chances out of $146 million. If your example were true, then I would have no problem winning the FL lottery which was over $40 million last week. (although tonight's $6M would be just fine)
We've had this discussion many times on LP. Almost everybody argues that I am

Mega Millions Won :-(
Yes I agree. We can't go with longer odds....what we need is a higher ticket price. $2 and maybe odds of 1 in 100 million. I think that might help out to bring about the jackpots that they once promised.

POLL 1 of 3: Computerized drawings vs. ball drawings
I don't like computer drawings. The odds of winning a jackpot is better fair if it's ball drawn.

$400,000,000 Threshold
so true but as the number of people playing increases so does the chances the pot will be won at some point sales may exceed the odds and most all combinations of the odds are bet.
people jump in lottery pools and buy hundreds of tickets.

Ticket Price Increases
For whatever reason, I like the odds of playing two sets of numbers for a dollar each, as opposed to one set of numbers for $2.

DC Raffle Sales...Not Too Good!
Well, that's an interesting thought, but I think if you compare it to the chances of winning a similar prize in any other game, the odds would be best by playing the raffle. How about you compare buying 20 Powerball tickets to one $20 raffle ticket, and see which one has a better chance of winning a million dollars?
Or, how about you compare a $20 scratch game with a $20 raffle ticket, and tell me which one has better odds of winning a million bucks?
To say raffle games are an insult t

Ohio's 0-2-3
In this discussion past results are not being used to predict when 023 will be drawn.
You are, you are saying that it hasn't shown up in 10,000 draws. I am just saying this has no weight on future drawings. The randomness of the draw remains constant. This, in turn, allows the numbers to eventually reach a balance, but the actual odds of 023 showing up are the same as any other three digit choice since the balls are appearing at random. The affect of gravity does not acknowledge pa

Which way is better?
Well ,,,we also need to keep in mind that if you pick 3 numbers and play them consecutively for 1000 drawings, your odds of winning are only about 62% - 63%.
On the other hand, if you play all 1000 combinations for ONE drawing, yours odds are naturally 100% to win.
