Lottery winner still a mystery in Georgia
I would ask for $5000 personal check with a date. Also write up a dated contract for payment with friend. After all the checks has cleared then I would claim my jackpot. Use their money for my expenses while I plan for my future. I would not ask for cash because they would state that I used their money to buy tickets. After claiming my jackpot, I would reward them for their kindness. :P God help me, I am bad.

...another discovery about lottery numbers
Mega-ThinkTank, you are going to be disappointed if you're waiting for other members to contract you by email to give you ideas. What reason would they have to do that? Those interested in sharing their ideas will post them for everyone to read, this is what I've done in the past and will continue to do when ever I have something worth posting. That team concept has been bought up before and it has never gone any where because players working on their own system aren't interested working on/f

Lottery win opens doors for N.Y. doorman
Nah, then they just wouldn't give you the money since your ticket is a contract and when you buy it you're agreeing to the state's terms and that includes how you can or cannot claim the prize. Luckily I think Michigan allows you to claim anonymusly on the state owned lotteries but not Mega Millions but I don't think there's any rules about claiming as a trust to where your name wouldn't be released. People who have won the MM here don't apparently even consider doing that but Ohio winners seem

A promise is a promise
I agree with tntea. I was brought up that giving your word and a handshake meant everything. However, people say all sorts of crazy things in the heat of the moment, whether it's out of excitement or anger. How many times has someone here said I just want to kill that %$#@! You really don't want to kill anyone -- at least I hope not! Millions of people also promise to love, honor and obey 'til death...well you know! LOL Yes, he has so much money now that maybe he should honor his promise, sin

David kills Goliath in Michigan will keep promise to friends!
Uff Da and JustX are both right. Once you buy it, the ticket is yours and you can make gifts of shares as you see fit. The lottery may or may not write individual checks, but if you only get one you can distribute the shares with no problem. The problem you will encounter is based on the IRS' presumption that you made a gift(s) of money rather than a share(s) of the ticket. In your example, even if you have an affidavit, dated and notarized before the drawing, describing the gifts I wouldn't be

Positive Thinking
Positive thinking can't hurt, but it must be kept within reality. No one should clean out a savings account or blow a paycheck on a lottery drawing because they're positive they're going to hit a jackpot. All the positive thinking in the world isn't going to get someone with limited or no playing abilities a major league baseball contract, for example, or no amount of positive thinking is going to let someone who has never boxed get in the ring with a professional prizefighter and win. (If

Tax office workers win Powerball lottery jackpot
any good lawyer would simply take the case on the foundation, ya snooze ya lose! Sorry but if ya didnt pay, ya dont get to decide how the winners money is divided up. A contract has three parts, consent, parameter (guidelines) and signatures..it doesnt have to be written. My lottery pool is three people, me,myself and I. *grin* Not a fan of large groups winning but hey, so be it. Just sorry that it had to be a group of women who cant learn to be quiet til AFTER they collect the money.

Paying a jackpot over 26 years is too long of a time frame
Well, I won't dwell on it, since last time it got me into some kind of weird debate with someone who went besserk, but it's only misleading if people don't read the rules which are printed on the cards and lottery web site which states a cash option. I agree that the advertising makes the jackpot seem very inflated, but it's like the ad in the newspaper that says chairs from $99. The store might have only 1 chair that is $99 and every other chair is $599. As long as they have the $99 chair,

Not all Retailers Pay Out to $599
When stores sign up to sell the lottery, they sign a contract with the state lottery -- a service level agreement. The contact states what the store is expected to do as a retailer. In order to be a lottery retailer, it's my understanding that stores are required to be in a position to cash winning tickets up to the maximum $599. Even if they're not, I would recommending reporting your experience to the state lottery, with as much detail as possible about what happened.

State with Worst terminals
If it's that bad (and I don't for one minute doubt your word) I'd be wondering who the terminal contractor is (Scientific Games, GTech or another firm), and be inquiring to the lottery commission about when that contract expires, informing them of your experiences and dissatisfaction. gl j
