Man sues California Lottery for not honoring winning $5M Scratcher ticket
In my layman's view, suing the California Lottery (and by extension the agent location that sold the tickets), while unlikely to be successful, is worthwhile given the amount of money at stake. Unfortunately, it appears CA Lottery age requirements are very strict in regards to acquiring tickets. I read through the regulations and it looks very bleak for the plaintiff. In particular, the repeated mention of Disqualified Persons , Player , and related details to instant tickets and claiming pri

Audit: Illinois Lottery broke law to get around budget impasse
Eleven months ago, just as the state budget impasse was about to take hold, the Illinois Lottery violated state finance law by prepaying $20 million to take part in future multi-state lottery games, according to an Auditor General's report. Lottery officials made the prepayment because they were worried that a budget stalemate could prevent the state from participating in the Multi-State Lottery Association's future Powerball and Mega Millions games, according to the audit. The state's Lot

NJ Lottery officials still investigating cause of massive outage
The exact cause and circumstances of a five-day outage that blocked nearly half of New Jersey's lottery retailers from selling printed tickets like Pick 3 and Mega Millions earlier this month are still a mystery, but a few determinations are unanimous. The blackout, although anomalous, was unacceptable, may have been detected sooner and should have been handled better, state officials and executives from Northstar New Jersey, the group responsible for the lottery's sales and marketing, said a

Jury rules that estranged brothers must split $1M lottery prize
Over a year of legal bickering ended Wednesday afternoon, but it appeared neither brother feuding over a jackpot lottery ticket was ready to move on and sing Kumbaya together. After a two-day trial in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, court, a jury decided two Mechanicsburg-area brothers, Charles Thomas Meehan and Ira Sharp, would split a $1 million lottery ticket straight down the middle. Could this be a move to all-computerized drawings and the death of real drawings in Illinois?
