Court: elderly sisters' gambling pact forces lottery jackpot split
The Connecticut Appeals Court has ruled a 1995 pact struck by two widowed sisters to split each other's future gambling winnings is still binding despite the fact they no longer speak to one another.
The decision paves the way for a public family feud pitting Theresa Sokaitis, 81, against Rose Bakaysa, 85, over a $500,000 Powerball jackpot Bakaysa hit on June 18, 2005, but doesn't want to share with her estranged sibling.
Sokaitis is suing Bakaysa for breach of contract. Bakaysa's attorney

Study ranks Missouri lottery as ninth best in U.S.
Good post, Stack! You are right about the low rankings. Looks as if practically every state flunked out.
One thing they said about FL that was negative is not complete. Under BAD they state Only 60 days to claim a prize after a scratch game is closed, 180 days for online games
This is true, but what they analyzed doesn't bother me at all. Before I play a game, I know the rules. But why didn't they mention that you only have 60 days from the date of the drawing to choose the form

The Implications of Cracking the Code..
Well you can cross the Salvation Army off your list. They won't accept money won from playing the lottery. The Salvation Army counsels people with addictions, one of them being gambling and, yes, some people spend their paychecks hoping for a lottery win. So they feel that it would be hypocritical to accept a donation. Here's an example of a man who sent them $100,000 and his check was returned. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20030102/ai_n9615603

CORPORATE Lottery
I guess I don't get the original poll question - didn't seem to be an option there for I think its OK - all the options seemed the be variations of no - don't let the foreigners do it . That kind of compromises the poll, IMO.
Full disclosure - I actually did consulting fork for Goldman (indirectly) in assessing valuation of GTECH for the buyout.
My first question is - what is the premise here? That only US controlled companies should be able to provide lottery systems in the U

Tenn. Lottery created discontent with move to computerized drawings
If the lottery reverts back graciously and are humble about it, the rewards would far outweigh the cost of setting things right again with the people of Tennessee.
The greatest reward to the lottery would be regaining the trust of the people.
It would be precedent and historical. People forgive and forget. Set a date, do it, and get it over with.
We're sorry. Please forgive us. Is a good place to start.

Have you ever met a lottery winner (at least $1 million)?
I stood in line a couple of times with guy who won a scratch-off game for a million dollars, if I hadn't seen his picture in the paper I wouldn't have believed it because he was buying tickets and hoping to win like every body else in the line.
Before I retired one of my former co-workers who was retired won one of those set for life games that payed a $1000 a week for life. He started a distilled water delivery business and had a contract with our company and he always stopped and told wi

California Lottery official fired for taking 'bonus' from hotel
Here is why he was fired....
Leeson allegedly signed a contract promising him about 97,000 Hilton honors points this year in connection with the state lottery's rental of 80 rooms per month at the Hilton, for $110 per night, to house Big Spin contestants.
Donald Currier, the state lottery's chief counsel, said Leeson is believed to have received a similar number of redeemable Hilton points last year, and an unspecified number in 2004 and 2005.
Hilton's honors program, like airl

Help organizing a work pool and forming a contract
This method offers no possibility for disputes.
There is always a possibility that there will be a dispute. The only question is how easy it will be to resolve a dispute when it comes up.
An email for each drawing listing the people you believe are in the group is a good way to prove that the people listed are in the group, but why would you need to prove that somebody is in the group? The problem is that the email may not be very helpful when somebody who played last week claims that

Florida lottery raffle tickets being illegally re-sold
johnph77...there doesn't seem to be any gray from the Florida Lottery's standpoint. From the Florida Lottery website:
Florida Statute 24.117 prohibits the sale of tickets by any person or business not under contract with the Florida Lottery as an authorized lottery retailer. The same statute also prohibits the sale of Florida Lottery tickets at any price other than the official, established price. Violations are first-degree misdemeanors and are punishable by fines and jail time. (This puts
